Forums - Sony - Should I get a PS3 slim

My 80gb MGS4 PS3 will turn 2 years old in July. I have heard that many fat ps3s are having faliures these days. Im not sure if this only happens to 60gb ones or not. Anyways I still have a best buy warranty and i might be able to trade my current PS3 in for the slim PS3. Do you think it is worth it? Or should I just keep my PS3? Did any of you have a promlem with the 80gb MGS4 PS3 yet?

If you can trade it in, why not? If not, just backup your stuff and if it fails, go get a slim.

All it comes down to really is the look of the PS3, and I prefer the glossy finish over the Matte, though, I heard that the Slim's run slightly faster... so that may persuade you, or if you are an eco-freak they use less electricity ;)

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

Is it the B/C 80GB?

If so I'd hold on to that puppy for as long as you can. I still have my 60GB PS3, going on 3 years, no problems.

If you don't care for B/C or if it isn't B/C then trade it in if you want, it's really up to you.

It is B/C and i do like the look of it. I also like the memory card slots and the chrome. But i dont want the system to fail on me. I have read on forums that many 60gb PS3s have been failing.

I have a 60GB PS3 and my roommate has the MGS4 80GB PS3. Neither of us have had any problems with the systems at all, however this weekend I did buy a slim because I was just too worried that my 60GB would die, so I decided to sell it on ebay since the BC models still go for a pretty hefty sum.

I have noticed the slim navigates the menus a little bit faster as my 60GB had gotten a little slow, although its not a huge difference.

The slim is also a little quieter and gets a little less hot than the 60GB did as that one had become pretty loud and extremely hot if left on for a couple hours. As far as the other features I noticed I never used any of the extra USB ports and things of that nature, and used the B/C pretty rarely. I just figured I can pull out the PS2 whenever I want to play one of those games.

Hope that helps!

Oh also if you still have everything it comes with, the MGS4 PS3's go for a ton on ebay if everything is there. You should be able to sell it and completely foot the cost of a slim if you decide to go that route.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

trade that thing in before it coughs up yellow lights on you. There are so many good ps3 games you won't even miss the b/c

I haven't even used B/C since i didn't own a PS2. What is the faliure rate of the MGS4 PS3 anyways?

I dont think there is a for sure failure rate reported on them, and to be honest I don't know if i've heard of any breaking (thought i haven't ever looked for reports of it or anything). I just keep hearing the 60GB are dropping like flies though again, I don't know a number to back that up.

If you don't use the B/C feature I really see no reason why you shouldn't sell it and buy a slim though. The soonest ending auction on ebay of a MGS4 PS3 has 7 hours left, needs a new bluray drive and is at $180 right now. So it should end up well over $200 while needing a $100 some repair. You should be able to make around $300 off of selling your system
