Forums - Gaming - My *complete surprise* GoTY... Rock Band!

I've been playing this game non-stop for the past few days and after logging serious time with the game, Mass Effect and Bioshock are slowly getting bumped down the GoTY list while Rock Band shoots up like a rocket.

IMO, this is the greatest party game of all time and when combined with DLC, it has the potential to be played for years on end (or whenever the sequel hits shelves). It even surpasses my former favorite party game, Wii Sports. It's that much fun.

Drums are incredible (just wait 'til Enter Sandman, you go apeshit while playing it), singing is surprisingly fun (even with my Gilbert Godfreid singing voice), and guitar/bass is like Guitar Hero turned to 11. Combine all of it into one four-player jam fest and you'll hear more hooting and howling over the game than any other game you'll play.

Now I just need to unlock Ballroom Blitz so I can complete my world domination of the drum machine... I already sang Fear the Reaper so that dream is taken care of... Nothing cracks up a bunch of people playing like screaming at your wife "MORE COWBELL!" in the middle of the song because she's not tapping the mic enough.

I never thought a "casual" game like this would ever come close to GoTY for me.

Anyway, what are some of the thoughts of other Rock Band owners here? Are you playing multiplayer a lot? Single player? Drums? Guitar? Singing?

The game is WAY too hard!

sorry been waiting for a good thread to post this in =P

@topic,

I have no doubt the game can be great fun, but I am still turned off by the price tag and the fact that I would need to make another console purchase makes the whole thing sorta "bleh".

If a Wii version comes out, I would consider it more.  Note that this is a fairly big change from my "not interested" of a few weeks or so ago.  Its the drums....to hell with the singing, and I can get plenty of guitar from GH, but the drums do sound like a lot of fun =P

To Each Man, Responsibility

Its an interesting move - I think *most* games that REQUIRE a group of people to play together, should be a lot of fun. Think Mario Party, with 4-player mode ONLY - and no AI (guess they could do this online?).

In general, people have a HEAP of fun interacting with other people - so any game to enforce this as a RULE - has at least a good chance of being fun (it could still be a crap game, and not be fun...).

I also wonder if Rock Band could be a dark horse for GOTY - sounds like its up there with Galaxy, CoD (etc) anyway.

Yeah, the price tag kills it for me. I can get party games for $50... why should I be paying $170? The other problem is that the single player sucks compared to Guitar Hero because the Guitar parts are so much more simple in Rock Band.

Of course, to compensate, the multiplayer is 100X better. Especially if you have 4 people. I just don't think I should be paying so much money for a game I would literally never play unless people were over. My friend is picking it up for Xmas and I'm sure I'll end up in his band (probably as singer since I'm the only one of us who can), but basically it's a game that only 1 person needs to buy in every group of 4.

You can play single player as drummer, bassist, guitarist, or singer. You're not stuck with guitar.

In fact, it seems that most people fight for the drums or microphone. Those are the most fun IMO.

But daaaaaaaaammnn are the drums hard later in the game.

ROTFL at RocketPig ... you REALLY love that game. I'll admit - it is definitely fun having at least 2-3 other folks on it. For my household, my wife said she'll do vocals, my son on the drums and me shredding. I also love the fact that the game has REAL SONGS on it, not just covers. Shoot ... even the covers sound as good as the originals.

There's really no comparison - Rock Band is much better than GHIII. And woe to the person who plays Rock Band for hours, then goes back to play GHIII. You'll be trying to drum and ... viola! NOT!

Yeah, RocketPig, the game rocks and the price is not as bad as you think. Seriously, if you are willing to spend $107 US on GHIII, you can spend $70 more for a USB mic (that works in XP/Vista) and a drum set.

This is one of my pics for top 10 holiday toys of 2007.

Apparently the CCR song is a cover, according to Tycho. Going from John Fogerty to "Mr. Tries Really Hard" is a big jolt apparently, paraphrasing his words.

See Ya George.

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

I played the PS3 version and it was really fun, to bad its not for Wii and it wasn't cheaper, otherwise I might have bought it.

Nintendo still doomed?
