Forums - Sony - What did the PS3 do that the Wii and/or XBox 360 copied?

Mm wasn't the "Ball" on Xbox controller on release? Or was it introduced into latter versions.. Cos I know the Sony has the same Ball that opens up the dashboard and if you hold it it can turn off console manually.

I swear to god that people on the internet get dumber by the minute.

Please tell me you’re trolling… PLEASE!

XxXProphecyXxX  “How about installing games to HDD?”

Problem is you have to install on the PS3 for most games because of that lovely 2x blur-ray drive people love so much.

CGI-Quality  “PS3 was the first HDMI-ready console. After its launch, the 360 added the function.”

You might be the only right answer I’ve seen in this entire thread… Congrats for what it’s worth.

Severance  “don't know about you but it actually looks more like the dualshock than the 360's controller”

.You’re kidding right, the wii controller (forget the right name for it) is a SNES controller with grips… the end.

realill  “PS3 is a first console with Internet Browser and Wii is second.”

O.o; silly kid you ever own a dreamcast? You know the best console ever made with web browser and the first console to support more than dial-up.

cura  “Neither MS or Nintendo made slim versions of their last gen consoles (i.e., xbox and GameCube respectively) whereas Sony did (i.e., ps2). If MS did it this gen, they'd quite clearly be taking a page out of Sony's book.“

You know Nintendo has a Slim model of the NES, and SNES right???? Yes Sony did it with both the PS1 and PS2. Sega never was good at slimming down there beasts… they just keep adding more junk on top of them. Kind of sad.

NicholasCage  “PS2 Eye Toy = Motion Controls this generation.”

Sorry cage wrong again it was called the Power Glove.

phinch1   “Sony was first to add the "Home" button on the controller”

I think Microsoft call it a Guide Button but nice try… swing and a miss.

What ever the name is, the basis of its function is still the same, pushing the button mid game will still bring up, the main menu, home, xmb , navigation, guide or whatever you fancy calling it, so I fail to see where that statement was dumb

Personally i think someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed ay grouchy? :)

Who cares who copied who, it's about who does it best.

The fact that you were insinuating that PS3 had that function integrated first when the Xbox was released with the Guide button and PS3 had pretty much duplicated it's functions - access to the dashboard or in PS3 terms the OXM, or at least that's what I think he was saying. He does seem a bit angry :P

I've read that article but I don't agree with all its points;

I agree when it says that there are some similarities beetween LBP and NSMBW even if I don't think that nintendo was pushed to develop NSMBW as a reaction to LBP, the multi-millionare succes of the DS verion is the main reason in my opinion.

Also, I don't agree at all with the classic controller statement, it was also originally designed for VC so it has to reproduce the main features of the older N consoles like the snes. It also have to implement analog sticks for other new games and N64 emulation. If ever it was the original PS1 dualshock design (not very changed by then) to took back the snes controller design adding extra trigger buttons and analog sticks.

Reading the article, majority of people in comments disagree with it, mainly the PS3 owners despite it attempting to be the PS3 propaganda, it fails in that aspect as the owners themselves are calling that guy a retard lol.

Home button, too. xbox 360 also copied R3+L3 buttons

I don't think that anyone has mentioned disk based consoles, Nintendo wanted to do it, but then they told Sony to get lost when they changed their minds leading to the PS1, since then, consoles have been disk based!
PS2 could play DVD's and the 360 copied that, Natal looks suspiciously like the Eye toy, the new Xbox interface looks a lot like the XMB.
But I don't care about any of that, it is natural for companies to copy off each other, a good idea is a good idea, so long as the consumer gets the best result, there is nothing to complain about!
