And if this ends up being a bad decision, it isn't as if Sony can start making the 80 or 60g versions again. That would be impossible. Sorry for the sarcasm but you're leaving yourself open there. |
Not impossible, but potentially expensive. They would be halting GS chip production and then restarting it. That kind of thing isn't cheap. In addition, restarting production takes far more time than halting it.
I have a 60 gb with BC, but I actually never played a PS2 game on it, neither have I played PS one games on my PS2, I think BC is just a useless feature that a vast majority of people will never use anyway
If I was to choose today I would still pick the 60gb though, for the 4 usb ports and the card reader, those I like & have a use of
It's not a matter of being desperate or not....if the decision turn out to be bad, a old product can always be introduced it's no big deal i mean was ford *desperate* b/c they reintroduced the T-bird or Pontiac desperate b/c the reintroduced the GTO?
Thanks to kenobi after I got him to ban my old account (dallas) after someone hacked into it and being ok with me coming back under a slightly different username. I appreciate our communication in the PMs. Also I want to give a big thank you to vgchartz for being one of the cooler websites around.
Oh, and I'm still the next Michael Pachter
That's disappointing. I was hoping when I get a PS3 (2008-2009 probably) I would be able to pack my PS2 away and play my PS2 games on my PS3.
Oh well.

Well I know that if I wanted to buy a system, I would want all of the full capabilities, the top-of-the-line. The 60 GB PS3 looks like the ideal purchase for me and I had hoped that they would have lowered the price further so that I would feel good about buying it. Instead, it was going to be phased out. It was replaced by the 80 GB, which is the same price as the 60 GB was without much new. The 40 GB just isn't appealing to me, the fact that it doesn't have backward capability. It's more of just a conveniency issue for me, seeing as how I have too many systems and not enough room for a PS3 and a PS2. I will still want to play some PS2 games when I am feeling nostalgic, that is why I still have my SNES and will never sell it. The price still isn't good for me either. In the end, the Ps3 (across all SKUs) has only dropped $100 in price, which is still unaffordable for me. Sigh. :(
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Ugh, stop with the AM DOOMED crap.
We'll see how this plays out, and as SSJ said, this could actually be incorrect, as many of the honchos over at SCEE have been directly refuted by SCEA or SCEI. As even others have noted, it's possible this is just a ploy to get people to upgrade now.
Wait and see. On the surface, I don't like this decision either, but wait and see.

I think its a bad idea, Sony can't be saving any money on the 40GB when you count the amount the retail price dropped as well and quite plainly there are people out there who won't buy the PS3 without BC, keeping a model with at least some BC will increase their sales.
