So his fight is purely to support OtherOS? Who's to say someone else won't use his work to go down the Homebrew route?

He started hacking the PS3 way before Sony announced "Other OS" removal (that's why Sony removed it in the first place)

Please remind me what they achieved by this.

Making there system safe from piracy a little longer ?

Geez TC, you must either be geohot's mouthpiece or an active user of ps3 linux

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Sony's removal of Other OS directly led to a custom firmware. So how did the removal make it safer from anything? (Ignoring for a moment the fact that Other OS won't be needed for piracy once it happens).

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

Well...he said his hack need "Other OS" function, and that's why he didn't make a CFW before.

BOUT TIME.

I'm one of the people here who hopes this will be used for homebrew.

Well, keep hoping.

If he worked on this before the announcement of removal then I think he has no grounds for complaint.

Sony took the Condoleeza Rice approach to the merest hint of there possibly one day maybe being piracy achievable through the Other OS feature. i.e. they chose not to wait for the smoking gun (actual illegal activity) and went to war with the CFW/Homebrew/FSM folks and the pirates when there may not have been any need for a war.

They could have simply released a statement saying that if the Other OS feature on the phat gets used for illegal software activity then they will do a FW release to remove it from all systems. Fire off a warning shot and wait with the FW bomb poised and ready for release at a moment's notice. Often a deterrent is as effective as direct action.

By trying to lock the door they just drew the attention of the lock pickers and gave them an enticing challenge. The irony being that 3.21 may end up leading to CFW/homebrew/piracy on PS3 sooner than would have been the case if they left the phats as is.

I haven't updated my phat yet. But mostly because I haven't tried to log in to PSN. If 3.21OO comes out before I feel inclined to get onto PSN, and it's fairly straight forward to install then I might just do it for no other reason than to thumb my nose at Sony's ridiculous reaction to this whole situation.

Any warning shot fired would have drawn attention.

Sony: Do anything and we will react!

Hackers: Oh, is that a threat?! Well then we'll see!

Fans of Hackers: Screw Sony, they deserve to get screwed!

Critics: Sony should have acted instead of threaten to act.

If Sony hadn't unlawfully forced the consumers to either lose Other OS or the ability to play future games, BD movies and use PSN, there wouldn't be a CFW.

Sometimes things are just as simple as they look.

must... resist....temptation... :p
