Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Next "Wii": Unique and different

Yes, that's how Shigeru Miyamoto descrives the next console from Nintendo, so if you're expecting a battle of chips, graphics, processors and online settings you'll be probably disappointed. (or maybe not)

It’s not just the 3DS that Nintendo are thinking about; the company have also been looking to the Wii’s replacement, and the focus seems to be not so much on the very latest hardware but how the company could make the Wii 2 distinctive against their rivals. According to Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto, “in the next generation of hardware, the challenge is how unique and different a product Nintendo is able to make,” pointing out to Games TM magazine that “technology is available to all equally today.”

That equality of access means that it’s not enough to simply bolt together the best components currently available on the shelf, but “how we decide to make use of that technology and in what format is what will make our hardware unique in comparison to the hardware from other manufacturers.” Miyamoto declined to comment on speculation that Nintendo are planning a “Wii HD” or “Wii 2″, or even a brand new console.
C'mon Miyamoto. What's behind the courtain?

I'm pretty sure reggie siad like 5 million times that their going for something unique that can't be done on the Wii.

My interest hasn't died down at all. I can't wait to see what this console will be like when it's released.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Only Nintendo is capable of out doing Nintedo I am excited and scared at the same time.

can we pleas wait until Zelda comes out at least? it is too early to talk about the next console (lol says me). the Wii still has at least 1 and half years left

Big surprise.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Weird and unique always better....normal boring to me anyways.

It better have high end graphics to keep up or be better than the competitors, and it better have dolby digital 5.1. There's no reason for it not to. HD tvs are becoming affordable and more commonplace now, as are home theaters/surround

It's gonna be exciting, that's for sure...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Embed the Wii2 as the middle connection. So that it's All Input Devices > Wii > TV. Then people can use the Wii as a channel surfer, Have mini games running in the background while watching the news, switch the input line to the DVD. The Wii already runs at 19.5 watts at any given time. It won't be that big of a deal if it's built to be on equal to your TV. That's just one Idea anyways.

Offer Skype like service with the Wiiremotes around the house for another thing. Each Wiiremote2 acts as a Miniphone to someelse on the sky network.

I know this sounds silly, but common it would be seriously cool and useless.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
