Hey! I wasn't saying that they released consoles like clockwork! I was suggesting there were other factors involved....

Sorry. I had trouble making out the rest of your comment. I just couldn't understand the wording.

But I still maintain the Wii is less likely since there are a lot of games that will keep the system a hit before the need for a new system. As stated, when they have some hit game ideas that truly cannot be done on the Wii, then that will be what the next system is made for.

The fact that the Vitality Sensor hasn't released (like Zelda and Dragon Quest X) only proves hat even more.

I do think DQX will probably be the Wii's swan song of sorts; it doesn't seem like it will come by year's end - more like mid-2011. 3rd partieshave pretty much released all they wanted on Wii. If you look at sequel output and the dearth of new IP emergence (may change after this year's E3) any company who has yet-to-be-released games now will be with Ninty in the future.

With the Wii's high hardware sales in mind, a 6 year life cycle is the least it could do before a Wii2 or N6 is released. It could also release 6-12 months after the competition too.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Hey, VII and VIII came out around the end of the PS1 and PS2. But that won't necessarily mean the Wii will go away then (for those that still desperately want it to).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

The console will still sell solid amounts for a few years afterwards, unless the N6 somehow is completely backwards compatible; replacing it (GC<Wii) The Virtual Console is a definite sustainer too, unless Ninty cuts off the servers for those, or transfers them.

The Wii will do some damage with DQX. DQ9 was the DS's swan song too if we think about it.......

The next Wii has to be a significant improvement in all areas over the current Wii. Nintendo do not tend to take half-steps.

I wonder what the significance of the 450mm wafers might have for the prospects of cartridges for the next system? They are due sometime 2013/2014 and I wonder if we will go full circle from optical drives and back to catridges within the space of 20 years. Unreliable, noisy, and loading times are very un-Nintendo attributes and I doubt they will need 50GB of space. Would they also need backwards compatibility? The old system is reliable and unobtrusive anyway and chances are anyone who has and loves a Wii wouldn't feel oppressed by its presence in their home entertainment system.

Tease.

So if they are releasing the 3DS due to a drop in sales for the DS, then won't they be releasing the Wii 2 next year if theres a slump in sales for the Wii?

I doubt they would release their next console the same year as the 3DS. Especially since Vitality Sensor has not even been released yet and motion plus games are just getting going.

Remember DS came out in 2004, two years before the Wii. So I think Nintendo will follow a same pattern and release the next console 2 years after the 3DS, so probably 2012 in Japan, and 2013 in the West.

Metallicube Im thinking the same thing 2 years after the handheld, thtas how it seems to work,so Wii 2 in 2012.
