Recently we gave you, the reader, our personal opinion regarding on whom we believe shall use the new Hitachi 3D screen technology.
We believed that SEGA was the most likely candidate. We then delved into our worldwide network of insider sources within the industry to see whether SEGA does indeed have confidential hardware plans for the mobile sector.
What we found out was that SEGA shall not only be using Hitachi for 3D screen technology, but also the same company for the System-on-Chip that shall power the platform.
Hitachi Ltd owns 30.62% of Renesas Electronics Corporation, and it shall be supplying SEGA with the R8A73720 Application Processor Engine, otherwise known as the SH-Mobile APE4.
The SH-Mobile APE4 is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 CPU running at 1GHz and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU clocked at 200MHz.
To summarize what we have learned thus far, SEGA has a 3D portable device in development utilizing technologies from it's long standing partner Hitachi, whom shall be supplying both the 3D screen technology and the SoC.
Further details as and when we get them.
