Forums - Gaming - Why Shooters Are Better on Wii

I saw this on IGN too...
It's true

Nothing beats point-and-shoot games. It's what the Wii was made for.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Greatness cannot be rushed.

all you have to do is look at the origin of shooters and where they still remain king to this day.. the pc.

sony move the wii and a pc mouse offer precision that a gamepad can never achieve even after countless redesigning , you can try and argue this and be blinded by your hate for change but the gamepad is supremely flawed when dealing with aiming in shooters.

try to draw a picture with the gamepad or just try pinpointing a few different spots around your screen with a gamepad, it doesnt work, weird how i can achieve it with a mouse or a wiimote will no effort at all.

your thumb and a small nub can never give you the speed and accuracy that full freedom of movement can give you , holding a wiimote or sony move or mouse in your hand is like holding the real thing , whether it be a sword or gun or punching, the gamepad will always be valuable in platforming and sport games but when it comes to precision gaming im glad to see the gamepad is on its way out .

Yeah, nothing in gaming is EVER like the real thing. It's not even close.

I work in a gun shop. I've fired shit you've only seen pixelated in a match of Counter-Strike. I work with guys who have spent most of their lives in the military and make me look stupid on a daily basis, doubly so when we get out on the range.

"Realism" has nothing to do with this.

Let's see someone fire a .50 cal sniper rilfle 40 times in real life. Watching it, you'd get a kick out of seeing it... unless you were the person firing. You're so damned shell-shocked after ten rounds that your vision starts blurring. After 20 rounds, you're not sure which way is up. 30 rounds, you're damned near pissing yourself. And that's WEARING ear protection.

Please don't turn this into a PC shooter thread, I've seriously had enough of elitist trying to cram their opinions down my throat on this website.

Thats not true. I saw a guy the other day walk around a group of targets and head shot a bunch of them from 10-15M away whilst firing from the hip. He was pretty leet, I was convinced he was using the mouse interface.

You're going to face resistance to this article. Partially because people who love PCs don't like having their toes stepped on and partially because the article is full of massive holes in its logic.

It compares Pac-Man to Contra. I'm willing to guess that I'm a fair amount older than you and the "issue" was with the transition to home gaming consoles, not the game itself. Even then, the "issue" was largely non-existent.

The article talks up the fallicies of run-n-gun gameplay but doesn't point out that it's a lot of fun to play that way. It tries to make a point out of a few lackluster games (Metroid being the exemption) and portray them as victims of a cruel world that just doesn't understand their brilliance.

You know what? That argument works wonderfully for games that don't suck. When they do, it just sounds like a contrarian opinion for the sake of being contrarian.

With that said, I actually agree that the potential of the Wii to have outstanding shooters is extraordinary.

He must have been. God knows he wasn't one of those old-school trackballers.

Seriously, though, games just don't do guns justice. The Garand is a MOTHERFUCKER. It kicks like a horse. The AR-15 (M-16)? It's like a warm blanket. MP5? Holy shit, it's like a cap-gun. BEST. GUN. EVER. That's the one gun where you swear you could just run around and fire non-stop for two hours and not feel a thing. It's purrrrddddyy.

P-90? Like a sewing machine. Just don't try to hit anything specific.

I'd like to take this moment to say that my job is TOTALLY FUCKING SWEET. Where else do you get to take out a case of Glocks and fire them for free and chase it with a nice dose of Smith & Wesson M&P? It's one hell of a way to relieve stress from a workday, I'll say that much.

Thats pretty much what I was trying to say in my opening post. Realism should never be brought into the argument for video games because video games are, contrary to the belief of some people in this thread, not realistic no matter the interface you use. The number one factor should be fun, if its more fun to run and gun versus to meticulously load a single bullet into your gun at a time so be it, damn realism.

Of course motion controls are the future just as virtual reality will be 20 years from now but that doesn't take the fun away from shooters that use dual analog just as Super Mario Bros is still fun despite 3-D platforming. The wii controller is far from perfect for shooters. That perception might change if a developer can create a game with the wii controller that truly feels natural and fun to use. The wii has yet to find its Halo.
