Forums - Gaming - Survey Results for Failure Rates - Consoles 2010

Our initial survey conducted in 2009 used a sample size of 1,000 participants. After this survey was concluded we began collecting results for our 2010 survey. As before we randomly presented a survey to visitors coming from a search engine after searching for a console specific game. After 500,000 surveys were completed for each of the three major console platforms the results were compiled as below. We used email addresses and session limiters to try and eliminate duplicate submissions. Questions were presented based on previous answers and "[console]" would have been the full name for the console. Results have been rounded to the nearest whole figure, answers are positive percentiles (yes).

So far no manufacturers have commented on the results.

I think it's amazing the 360 fails so much as it doesn't seem to have hindered it's sales! People obviously value quality of games over system ...

Its not that obvious really. People re-purchase their console for a number of reasons, "quality of games" isnt the only one, but it is one of them. dot dot dot

Nice spin, though the common consumer has no idea about failure rates, it is not like you go to a store and next to your console it says if you buy this there is a XX% chance it will break.   Further, what does it say about a company that repairs/replaces its product and yet it break again and again?  The consumer may be loyal but that does not change the fact that the company is screwing its consumer base, the games may be great but if your console is getting repaired/replaced, you can't really play these great games.

i knew the result before clicking on this thread.

@seece

when you invest in lots of games on one console you ll repurchase when a new chip/iteration is released in hopes of getting rid of the problem.Base Price of a console also plays an important role.

Games as you mentioned also play a part in it,,,,,so it's not just games.

There can be little doubt that Xbox 360 is the most shoddily built system in the history of video games. However, Microsoft's first-to-market strategy paid off, and the 1 Billion USD set aside to fix broken 360s is mere petty cash for the software giant.

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

The PS3 stats are nothing to be happy about. Is it just me or is its failure rate really going up?
