Forums - Microsoft - Splinter Cell: Conviction 5 Hours LONG!!! NO Thanks!

okay I'll admit 5 hours is pretty lame, but SC is all about co-op and playing with friends. Most people will probably beat it, and then play it again with a friend.

I suspect Uncharted 2 will prove to have been a lot better than SC:C, but it was just barely over 5 hours itself.

To clarify, I think games should be a lot longer and maintain the same level of awesomeness (see Mass Effect 2), like they used to. But to not expect these things these days is a bit naive on your part.

Hmmm.....not quite.

Uncharted 2 at the lowest, was around 8 hours. My second playthrough was a speed run and lasted about that.

Yeah, reminds me of people saying they beat Fable II in 5 hours when all they did was run through the main story, ignore all the side quests, and pretty much miss everything that makes the game great. Not a perfect example, but it's similar.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

This is why Achievements matter...keeping people honest, and if the achievements are done correctly, it will identify those spewing out nonsense like this.  There is ABSOLUTELY no way anybody could have complete Fable II correctly in 5 hours...even 10 hours is really pushing it!  Anyway...For an action game...I don't want anything over 15 hours to complete!

Admitedly my playthrough was bare-bones, and I didn't bother with anything like looking for the treasures (I also wasn't playing on a high difficulty).  But I swear it wouldn't have taken me much more than six hours.

Either way, both these games are too short.  My point is, one should (sadly) expect that these days.  And as seen from Uncharted 2, it doesn't stop a game from being great or having good sales.

half life, 15 hours long yes!!!
If you don't like shooter games you can try something else then, 5 hours isn't justifyable for the money

this. Half life 2 is fps ever made.

LOL...this is even more reason for me to buy this game...I can complete it in 10 hours, rather than some long 8 billion hours boring JRPG.

Bleh. Still there are plenty of short games I've enjoyed that were about this short or slightly longer. For example one of my favorite games of all time was on the XBox: Max Payne and I finished that just slightly over 5 hours, and the second one was even shorter. No multi player either, and that was one of the best experiences. Theres also quite a few Castlevania games I spent some good money on and they were 5 hours or less.

To recap Splinter Cell has:
- a very engaging 5 hour single player campaign with Sam Fisher
-a seperate co-op campaign that will last you several more hours
- multi player that will most likely last you way more then five hours, just like all the last splinter cell games.

Hell, some games I don't even touch the single player campaign. Both Ghost Recons I didn't even put one hour into the SP campaign, yet I put in over 80+ hours into the multi player.

To each their own I guess.

It's just that simple.
