Misinformation effect is when someone tells you something misleading after an event that later you recall actually seeing, but you did not know of it until someone else told you about it. It is altering your memories of an event. This is why law enforment want to keep eyewitnesses separate from each other. So, what someone did not see, but someone else did does not become part of that person’s memory also. Using different formats can also cause someone to recall an event differently. As in say you watched a video of an accident, and then a little later you were asked to write down what you saw, or asked in a multiple choice format.
Constructive processing refers to retrieving memories in which they become altered, redone, or influenced by more recent information. It is memories that are made using stored away pieces of information. Every time you recall a memory it may be altered in some way including the use of newer information. Memories are never an instant replay of exactly what happened they have become influenced by other events and memory’s being stored aking place. Also, not every item will be retrieved from a memory properly and in fact other parts of a different memory or newer information may take its place.
Ok so this is part of an essay for a class. This is what I believe and understand for each to be. I am having problems coming up with examples to use. Perhaps my understanding is not quite clear. Can anyone who knows about these help? Thank you in advance.
