For the second case, it could go as simple as this.
You and John go to the store to buy sodas. You see new green oreos with chocolate stuffing and buy them.
5 years later after they're big you think. "I remember when I first had them. John and I went to the store... I don't remember why exactly, it may have been to get them."
6 months after that.... "I remember when I first had them. John and I found out about them and went to the store to get them. I remember telling John... those new oreos are out today..."
You actually remember telling John that even though in reality you never did and didn't even know they existed till you got there.
