Well were you?

Actually no. I wasn't expecting the Wii or DS to be the sales giants that they are right now. I'm glad that they are though.

Before they launched (well, after X360 launch but before PSWii) I was expecting something like this for lifetime sales:

PS3: 90mil
Wii: 80mil
X360: 40mil

Admitedly I knew very little about the gaming industry then, but the Wii and X360 are easily going to beat that prediction, and while the PS3 looked like it was going to struggle to make half the figure it now looks like it will handily exceed 2/3rds for sure.

I had a good feeing but they both exploded on the seen,now both our on their way to become to outsell ps2HAIL Iwata!

Even a big Nintendo fan like myself, I admit I had no idea. I DID think the Wii would perform better than Gamecube and N64, maybe similar to Super NES, but I surely didn't expect it to outsell its most successful console, the NES, especially in 3 years.

DS I expected to be pretty big, but not bigger than the Gameboy franchise.

I expected the Wii to be the most selling. And I hated that feeling because it was obvious that motion control would play a big role if it succeeded.
So, Move, Natal, Wii2, anyone?
This is not the type of gaming I will support. But I also don't like the entertainment hype with all those movie-like games. I simply want games to play, like a board game would never develop like that.
So I will most likely stick to retro after this gen. Little off topic, but hey ..

DS--not at all.
Wii--completely. It justed seemed so analogous to the DS/PSP scenario (and was so widely unexpected) that I was pretty sure we were going to see very similar results.

Wii will easily hit 80M end of September.  Shipments wise.

Erm I never heard of the Wii before release. Same with DS unfortunately, but even then it took years to fully accept the sales successes they were.

No, I was extremely afraid of the PS3... I was so sure that it would be another PS2.
And the PSP too, it was the gameboy killer since 2002, around then.

Dark times for a nintendo fan. I really imagined them quitting the hardware business. Now I can't imagine them not leading when the real HD war begins.
