You're wrong about dust killing your console.

Everyone knows that Wiis are the biggest collectors of dust and they they have the lowest failure rate amongst the consoles.

nope. The dust hurts your console if its being played. Its like a heart. It has to pump through all that dust. If the console is not being used *wii being the less used console* then it doesnt matter

dust causes heat build up. A PC just cleans versus a PC with a thin layer of dust runs 10 - 14 degrees cooler

Earth, fire, wind, water....heart?

I feel a captain planet theme song is in order (all valid ways to kill a console).

I left my 360 on for 2 years straight, never broke. PS3 for over 8 months. They do not need to shut down, PC hardware is left on all the time too. So long as the temperature can be sustained... and isn't heating indefinitely I don't see the problem leaving them on.

.... sadly im going to disagree with this. systems need to be rebooted time to time to delete cache and update things. also the massive waste of electricity that your using

I'm not saying I don't reboot, to delete cache, release memory, update etc etc, but rebooting isn't turning the system off.

And the wasted electricity is an issue for another topic. My PS3 is in use most of the time (bluray/music/folding), but it's not something I need to justify anywho.

I actually feel kinda safer leaving my systems on than off though... I mean I've NEVER had any hardware break whilst it was on, only ever had problems on bootups.

Had my PS3s HDD die because of a power surge though. Was during a PSN update installation... very unlucky I suppose.

Just so it ends on an even note.

Actually, heat stress causing RROD/YLOD is from heating and cooling so leaving your console on indefinitly would probably mean it would never fail (from RROD/YLOD)

Thoughts?
