Hm... I can see your point, but on the other hand, it's unfair to compare games like Mario Kart with GT. One tries to entertain and amuse the player while the other one tries to simulate the true experience of a racing car. Both are great in its own genre tho.

OT: I honestly didn't have much fun playing GT5P. Well, I had never played any GT game before, and I was seeking for a racing game that could fill MSR's hole in my heart... got disappointed :/

Can I ask considering this thread is debating this very issue. What makes GT the best simulator?

You may think it's insignificant, but the most important part of making a realistic simulator is how many times you update the physics to your input. GT4 and GT5P have both had much less than FM1,2 and 3. FM2 for example had 360 hertz physics against GT5P 120 hertz physics. Hell even FM1 had 80 hertz. This makes a difference of feeling the roads bumps within 8 metres to not feeling them.

most important part to a physics engine is not how many times it updates itself, but rather how accurate the data is being manipulated during those updates. to that end, I think both series are shit, and as long as you are having fun, it shouldn't matter. want a real sim, stay on PC I say.

mario kart is the one of the worst "racing" games out their, if it is even a racing game. Yes you race in it but i think that it would be better to call it a "kart" game. It's a great and very fun game i love it. It doesn't have real cars, the karts don't look real, and the physics don't have anything to do with driving. That is why it ain't a racing game, it's a kart game, or more of an arcade racing game.

The top two racing games out their are forza and gran turismo. Personally i find gran turismo to be better, the physics are better, the cars feel better, and i personally enjoy the overall feeling of the game.

why does a racing game have to have cars? or even realistic cars? People run in races, they boat in races, and they even fly in races. The Racing genre is any game where the objective is to get from the start to finish the fastest regardless of method of travel.

anyways, I'm not a huge fan of pure racing sims, so while I'll agree GT is the best pure racing sim, I think other games are "better" racers. However, the definition of better in such an open ended question is impossible to define.




If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

You hit the nail on the head. Mario Kart Wii >>> GT for fun and entertainment. I am going to pass on GT5. I have learned my lesson. I did not enjoy GT5P. If anything, I will finally break down and get my own Wii.

Yes, Gran Turismo is the best racing game series ever made. Looking forward to the 5th iteration.

It was gorgeous but not in a good, creative way... but all other things were missing. it was not fun, it was boring (in fact, it's the most boring game I've ever played). It was not fast, even with the top cars running at 300km/h. And it was not wild - driving my car at 20km/h (with traffic) to work looks much more wild than racing a rally course in GT.

All in all... it's a game that it's not really a game, imo. It's more like Flight Simulator... sooooo muuuuch fuuuun....NOT.

Best racer?? Mario Kart, Rumble Racing, MotorToon Racing, F-ZERO... anything that's more creative than "ultra realistic".
