Leo-J, you talk like there have been shortages for the PS3's entire life.

Wrong.

He said it WASN'T a big issue.  Only the week of GoW3 release did he say he actually saw significant shortages.

I definitely admit they were not available everywhere.  However, if you just called around or made 2-3 stops you could pretty much find one if you wanted one.  Even GoW3 week all I had to do was make 1 call to Walmart and found a store with 3 in stock.  So I went and bought it

So the real question that remains here is this:

Does Kowenicki think it will happen?

The 360 Fans are always like "oh but PS3 had GoW3, the shortages dont exist"
But they seem to forget that the 360 had a 129$ Arcade deal in Canada the same week and the 50$ Giftcard deal, when you buy the Elite Spring Bundle (with forza 3 and halo odst for 299) which alone is fking cheap

this week you could get 360 arcade with a free controller for 160$ on amazon and dell but nobody is talking about that, only about the ps3 having exclusives like GoW3 and heavy rain in the last month

Plus why would there be a hardware boost from having a free controller....huh

The mistake you guys make is that you assume shortages are the only thing that stops the PS3 from selling an insane amount of units. Yes, there are shortages but the thing isn't sold out like the Wii was in 2007. You can still find a Playstation 3 and as some people pointed out the God of War release week was the only week when sales dropped because of supply issues.

You guys assume this is the same situation the Wii was in in 2007 / 2008. But the Wii demand was caused by huge, mainstream games that are still selling well today (games that sold more than 10 million units lifetime so far) while the PS3 demand was caused by a number of frontloaded titles that won't affect demand for more than 3 weeks. The Playstation 3 just got Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III and Heavy Rain - the current demand is caused by these 3 titles, not the general excitement about the system.

So basically, sales will drop off after some weeks because those titles won't have the legs most Wii games do.

I agree the PS3 will sell well this year but reading your posts it sounds like the whole world was in a Playstation 3 rush and the only thing holding the system back are severe supply constraints. But sales won't just magically increase because Sony ships some more units. The current spike in demand was caused by all those big games releasing only weeks after each other, not by some sort of general PS3 hype.

I agree that the ps3 will outsell the xbox eventually like you said, just out of curiosity what year do you think it will happen? late 2012 is when I expect it to, maybe early 2013.

Well, holidays are crazy.

I expect PS3 to overtake 360 WW towards the end of this gen.

By then a new Xbox and possibly Playstation will either be arriving or about to.

I expect 360 to retain lead in US over PS3.

I expect PS3 to have big lead in Japan by then and decent lead in Others

I expect Wii to be ahead in all territories.

I might change my mind once I see what impact (if any) Move and Natal have.
