I'll bet that the Ipad's OS is nowhere near as hungry as Windows is for Ram.

That, plus multitasking is limited, plus it's running apps which are designed for a mobile device instead of apps which are designed for a desktop.

this and what i said.

Being I have now spent about 3 hours using an iPad, I can say without question... who gives a shit how much ram it has in it?

A netbook has 8x the ram as a PS3, so it should play Heavy Rain better! Right?

It's an amazing tablet, and everything I want to do on it, it does beautifully (save one thing), so the amount of ram it has is irrelevant.

As for multitasking with such little ram, a jail broken iPhone can multi-task a dozen apps without running out of ram. A real OS knows how to manage memory. My guess most of you who care about ram, are used to Windows.

Oh, and the single complaint I have about the iPad (and the iPhone), is Safari on it will not let me reply to posts on this site, The editor does not work in Safari, and Apple will not let other browsers play. BS choice. Let FireFox on the damn thing.

Does it do what it's supposed to do?

Just press the cancel loading button (X) on the adress bar area when you see the text+coding in the box. It's a pain, but if you do that, you can just scroll down to the clear area at the bottom, and type your message. Then press post.

Firefox is a great browser but a complete resource hog. Apple may have added the limitation for that reason.

Also, I was told that multitasking on the iPad unavailable (regardless of how much RAM it has)?

Resources is not the reason. There are many apps on the app store that take up more resources. The reason is Apple will lot approve apps that duplicate functionality. I am ok with that, as long as you make the only option I have work.

As for multi-tasking, the iPad, iPod, and iPhone multi-task. They just don't let 3rd party apps do it. Mail, iPod, Phone, Nike+ all run in the background. The OS itself is the same core OS that a Mac runs (Darwin).  It's just UNIX. If you hack the phone, you can make any app run in the background. I have done it to my phone, and I run Pandora in the background all the time.

In 3 days they are going to announce iPhone/iPad OS 4.0. I am sure the reason they are doing it so close to the launch of the iPad, is because it will have open multitasking in it.

I must be doing something wrong, because I can not get it to work.

more cool stuff on the iPad:

Remember, this is a device that's been out 3 days.

Judging by those video's, i'd say 256MB of ram doesn't matter.
