MW2 was two steps towards quantity and two steps away from quality if you ask me. COD4 deserves 20 million, not MW2. The only reason I bought MW2 was because I knew I could count on all of my friends having it too.
I don't agree with this at all. BFBC2 is a great modern day shooter, very well made and tons of fun to play.
MW2 is in a league of its' own. It's a phenomenon that attracts Hardcore gamers, mainstream gamers and even non-gamers. It's the GTA of this generation, and it deserves every sale. It might not be the best shooter (this comes down to opinion), but it's obviously doing something right that most other shooters can't. The only thing that even comes close is Halo, and they're different enough to co-exist.
You're not going to knock MW2 off the top by taking the same approach, with a different game. That's why there are tons of Sci-Fi shooters that tried to take the top spot from Halo, and they all failed. It took something different (COD4) to take down the king. This is also why the next Medal of Honor won't scratch MW2, the idea is too similar and it doesn't matter if the gameplay is different.
The greatness of COD4 guaranteed success, BFBC2 didn't have something like that to set it up.
No amount of internet nerd rage is going to change that.
