Forums - Nintendo - Anyone else wish Nintendo keeps their current launch prices?

If 3DS is as power ad GC, has 3d gaming without glasses and accellerometers like iPhone it will never sold at 150$. My guess is that the launch price will be 199$, and that's not too bad for what it gives in terms of hardware.

Wii 2 will likely never surpass 300$, they saw what happened to Sony, but also saw that Xbox 360 sold well even if it costed more. And a lot of people would pay 50 more dollars but have a more powerful console...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Remember that $249 back in 2006 is different from $249 at 2011-2012 due to inflation. Prices can't go down forever.

A curiosity: adjusted for inflation, the NES would have launched at $390 or so.

But also remember that the Gamecube launched at $200, so $250 was a increase in price and Nintendo might be able to maintain that price for another generation; and then increase to $300 (or $3,000 depending on how high inflation is) in the following generation.

Personally I think the GameCube price was kind of a miracle considering his XBox-like performance and how few Nintendo was losing on each console at launch. His architecture was so successful that Microsoft copied it with the X360 and Sony's PS4 CPU at least will follow the same guidelines.

Yes, that could happen too, but maybe the market is getting too big for lesser technologies like happened in the past. I'm not saying Nintendo is going all high-tech next gen. Their innovations could beg for a price hike (like the 3DS should be more expensive than the DS by a margin).

When I say this, I think to myself.  Will the 3DS, or what have you, be $149.99 upon launch?

Also, will the Power Wii or what have you be $249.99 upon launch?

I hope so.

have you seen DS XL price?

What's a DS XL?  I have a DSi XL but I'm not interested in a DS XL.  The DSi and DSi XL are DS's with more content.  I'd imagine the 3DS will eventually get a revision with gyroscopes or something.

Pixel Art can be fun.

They're goign to have to bump th price to make it equivalent to a 2006 price. Inflation, and all.

they haven't bumped a single console price up yet due to inflation, so I fail to see why this argument would hold now. (GC = 200, N64 = 200 [I think it was 250 with a game, but wiki says 200], SNES = 200, NES = 200). The Wii added wireless controls & Wifi, so a $250 price tag is justifiable compared to a GC.

Newer componenets are faster/better than older ones and end up costing the same ammount (so long as you aren't on bleeding edge level of technology), so they could make a Super Wii and launch for $250, heck the PS3 is getting close to that price and it has blu-ray.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

i dont quite agree , u know how cheap those wifi modules are,  and the tech was already five year old (cpu/gpu).

Nintendo has been great for pricing in the past and for the most part i imagine they'll keep that up. But for the 3DS, the ongoing success of the DS makes me think they'll introduce it as a high end machine to both make more money off of it AND keep the cheaper DS sales alive and well. And if Sony ever releases a PSP 2 or the ipad becomes serious competition, they'll have some leeway with price drops.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

i just hope they keep games at the same price. For me the difference between paying $50 for a brand new game and $60 is HUGE. I've only bought 1 full price PS3 game, whereas I've bought 4 full price Wii games, and its not for lack of interest in PS3 games either.
