Well they were a terrorist group and THEN directly elected.

They aren't recognized as the leaders of Gaza though for a couple good reasons.

The first being... it would completly fuck over Gaza.

The rocket attacks and suicide bombings that are currently considered acts of terrorism would instead be considered acts of war.  Giving Israel a lot more free reign then they have now to retaliate.

The people of Gaza didn't elect Hamas because of the terrorist attacks but inspite of them because Hamas uses a lot of it's "funding" to help people in the area and may actually be less corrupt then the PLO... but if they ever were actually recognized... all hell would break loose.

Hamas just gives Israel more execuse to take more and more land and maybe even all of Gaza eventually.  The first step to piece is Hamas realizing they're hurting and not helping.

They seem to have realized that recently.

There is no way they could fuck over Gaza more than Gaza is being fucked over by Israel. The siege of Gaza is an atrocity. The reason they aren't recognized is because almost nobody wants the instability of a militant government in the middle east.

You'd be surprised.  With Hamas recognized, they could probably push for the complete evacuation of Gaza given enough time.  The attacks give Israel more and more right to build a "buffer" between them and any Palestine state... and eventually that state may just be "pushed" into non existance.

Besides Israel now gives the citizens ample warning.  Though lots of citizens do still tend to die due to the Hamas human shield polcies.

Recognize Hamas as the offical government, and now you recognize the majority of Gaza Palestinians as the enemy, as opposed to people who live with terrorists.

I'm not only talking about Israels attacks on Gaza, I'm talking about the siege as a whole. The blockade that has stopped Gaza from repairing the damage done during the invasion last year, has stopped people from getting necessary medical help.

I really don't like Hamas, but what Israel is doing to Gaza is just plain wrong.

She's cute.

Without Hamas do you think the blockade would be happening?  Hamas in general keeps giving Israel the excuse.  The more legitamite they become, the more excuse they give Israel.

So, these politicians are anti-Halloween?

From my (limited) understanding, Islam demands that women dress modestly but there is no mandate on what women should wear; and this is completely reasonable being that it allows women the freedom to choose what is appropriate to wear in different contexts. In other words, being against the burqa can not really be seen as religious intolerance being that it has nothing to do with the religion.

With that said, I think it is entirely reasonable to create a legal framework to ensure that people have the right to refuse services to an individual if the way that they’re dressed causes significant problems. The most current example from Canada is that a woman refused to remove her hijab (face veil) while she was being taught to speak french; as you can probably imagine, it is virtually impossible to correct a person’s pronunciation without being able to see their mouth.

As I said, I really don't like Hamas. Doesn't excuse what Israel is doing though.

I also fully support not allowing Burqas in locations where security is paramount, if a person walked into a bank with a balaclava it would be unacceptable yet the Burqa provides even greater anonymity.

Yeah, didn't say it was acceptable, just said it's what gives them the excuse.

If Hamas didn't exist, Palestine would be pretty much nothing BUT victim except for minor terrorists here and there.  Israel would be forced into a deal sooner rather then later I'd believe.

It's even rumored that Hamas was first started by the Israelis as a counterweight to the Fatah.  The extreme muslim group that attacks Israel being created by Israel.  Of course that could be nothing but rumor... but it really is doing what your enemy wants.

Israel does nothing but benefit by dragging it's feet.  While Palestine would be better served getting the best deal it can get right away, rebuild then demand more in international court saying they were forced to sign the treaties under duress.

If I can't walk around a bank with a ski mask...Why should a woman be allowed to wear something oh so similar?

Food for thought

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
