Natal.  Full body tracking.

Head tracking is actually insanely easy and would not exactly be a step above 3D by any means.  Any game using PS Eye or Natal can do this.

Im not sying that its a step above 3d..... i think it would be cool to crouch in FPS and your charecter would do the same.... as far as head tracking.... nothing has been anounsed by Sony....and i think that that would be a step in the right direction for sony.....

More than likely all of these (natal, motion controls, 3D, head-tracking) are all leading to one thing... virtual reality. All of them are integral parts of something when combined would be working towards a complete virtual reality experience. Although tried way back in the 90s it was clear the tech wasn't ready.

But I think we are getting closer to where soon this might be the experience we get in the next couple of decades. And maybe not everyone would want virtual reality, but I think not only being able to see the experience first hand, but actually interact in it first hand would be the ultimate experience. Or, for 3rd person games, feeling like you are right there.

Guess that's just my opinion of where all this is going, but we'll see. I don't think classic gaming will die off, but this would be quite an advancement.

Gotcha.  I thought you meant technologically speaking that head tracking was the next step.

Wrong.
The next step is for games to play themselves!

4D

4 dimensions are eyes cant see and 4d graphics (as in physics) are already implemented in killzone 2 (aka post processing effects)

Commercially the term 4D means 3D + smell/feel.  Like Disney's 4D theaters where you get splashed with water or feel bugs crawling on you or smell the food being baked.

This, or a joke that 9009pc missed completely, lol.

no I seen the joke but decided to go along other directions for things after 3d. I was talking about the 4d that sony was going on about when they released the ps3 but nightsurges 4d would a significant improvement to games.

sorry just reread what I said it does sound like an attack on the idea sorry commonMan.

No problemo. Technically you could say that the 4D part is already done as well since you can get a fog machine and stage lights for rocck band.

This is basically what I am looking forward to, too.  Hopefully it is available and confirmed 100% safe before I get too old to care.  I want my games and entertainment to be like me living in it and actually controlling every action from the main character's point of view.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
