Forums - Microsoft - Mass Effect 2 sales in the toilet-- is the reason ME1?

sorry I meant to include this.

Everyone talks about the PS3 not being able to sell successful exclusives.
The best game hands down the 360 has, makes everything else on its platform besides ME 1 look like amataur work, look...

Yes!

Lets compare two totally different genres that cater to entirely different user bases!

Why not use the more apt comparison?

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Uncharted+2%3A+Among+Thieves+-+PS3[28733]&reg2=All&game2=Gears+of+War+2+-+X360[16548]&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=50

Kind of hurts your argument, no?

Your comparison is flawed for 3 reasons:

Firstly, as other people have said they're 2 different genres. I can see how they're similar in some gameplay aspects but to dismiss the RPG elements of Mass Effect 2 and the platforming on Uncharted 2 is silly.

Secondly, Mass Effect 2 is not exclusive, it released on exactly the same date as the PC version which likely took a solid chunk of the 360 sales. It shocks me how many people fail to realise the impact PC sales have, especially considerring Bioware have almost god-like status with PC gamers (along with Valve and Blizzard).

Thirdly, Mass Effect 2 was released after the holidays unlike Uncharted 2 which had the advantage of the holidays to sell bucket loads.

piracy, anyone? I think that is the obvious reason for sales drop.

LOL...ME was totally exclusive to the 360 on launch, whereas ME2 wasn't, so you're surprised that people might have actually choosen the PC version over the 360 version? ME2 is tracking for 2.5 to 3 million LTD...that's bad...WTF...how much do you think Bioware spent making the game?

Also, RPGs tend to be front loaded, and when the hell was 2.5m units on ONE of the two platforms you were simultaneously released on, considered average?

And which platform exactly is it that sold or will sell 2.5 million units ?

See bellow, highest selling platform for DA is 360 with 1.5 mill units at this time.

Highest selling for Me2 is most likely 360 at this time with 1.6 mill..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Just relativise PC sales.
This is what EA said DA had sold total by by February 8th(http://www.vg247.com/2010/02/09/dragon-age-origins-left-4-dead-2-sales-hit-3-million-units/).

Total sales 360+PS3+PC = 3.2 millions. ( most likely shipped numbers)

360 sales at the time : 1.4 millions ( sold not shipped)
PS3 sales : 700k ( sold not shipped)
PC sales : less than 1.1 million....

That cant be right can it?

Left 4 Dead 2 sells 2.9m while this site has the 360 version at about 2.5m at that time.

I cant believe the PC version of L4D2 only sold 400k.

At least its back in the UK charts this week...
I really did enjoy the 1st Mass Effect, but haven't got the 2nd one yet, cos I have no time for gaming recently. Will get my copy later this year I think...

I'm pretty sure EA could get into serious trouble if they gave wrong informations to investors during earnings calls so this has to be correct...

There is however a simple explaination.

I believe L4D2 units sold on Steam are not counted as EA does not distribute those...( the publisher for the steam version is Valve).

EA is however the publisher for DA on Steam so DA Steam sales are included...

Ah of course.  Thanks I completely forgot that Steam sales of L4D have nothing to do with EA.
