While that does show ME2 outselling ME1, you'll notice that it is actually now selling less per week than the original in the comparable weeks:

Week Mass Effect Mass Effect 2
1 394,757 961,290
2 271,280 268,077
3 144,359 151,848
4 136,931 83,891

6 92,295 37,865
7 55,936 26,541
8 37,851 20,627
9 35,324 16,721
10 35,212 -

As you can see, ME2 has declined extremely quickly. I know sequels are generally more front loaded, but it is down almost 20k per week on the original after just 9 weeks.

But don't forget that Mass Effect came out during the christmas season, while Mass Effect 2 came out in the spring time.

Rest assured if ME2 had come out around christmas 2009, it most likely would have been up to 2 million in the same time frame.

This list would have more validity if Mass Effect 1 was released in January.

That's not a great excuse considering that the market was much smaller when ME1 came out, and there was alot of popular games being released around the time.

ME2 was released on a much bigger userbase AND was the top dog in january.

The reason ME2 declined so much is because of the PC version, which is eating away the sales of the X360 version. The fact that ME2 had a much bigger launch week, yet dipped far below ME1's sales so fast can support that the PC version is eating the console version's sales.

Never mind the fact that Mass Effect 2 was released after Christmas and during a recession end. So yeah, sales will be hit alot harder than ME1's time in Xmas 2007.

That's very possible considering Bioware has a large PC fanbase and it was also cheaper on the PC ($60 plus tax vs. $50 and no tax on Steam).

Nevertheless, Mass Effect 2 is still out performing the original and legs will likely sustain better than the original long term.

GreyianStorm-- Thank you so much for posting this.  This table illustrates exactly what I was trying to say.  You are inspiring me to include more data in all my future posts.

He completely ignored that Mass Effect was a holiday release. Of course, it would and should outleg its sequel releasing in January. When you release a game this early, you do it no favors in regards to legs.

mass effect 2 is to good for the casual market of the 360, when the first came out every one tough it was a casual game like wii sport but instead they got a very core game, so when the second came out people had learn their lessons and didn't get the game :( , I was hopping me2 would be able to outsell ffx13 on the ps3 in NA but it doesn't seems likely

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Your also forgetting that Mass Effect 1 kinda got a price cut fast~~ for the past year it was only 19,99 here!

If anything the PC version did is increase the amount of pirates, you still need a high end pc to play ME2 so why bother if you got a xbox360

Edit: All my friends that got Mass effect pirated it on the PC :(. Apart from 1

I think the game sold ok, but like everyone here, I expected its sales to double the first game. It's jan 2010 GOTY after all.

I got given ME2 so got ME1 to play through first and it's so damn glitchy I packed it in after about 5 or 6 hours. Even after installing, it was so bad I packed it in and found something else to play.

Constant unloaded textures and stuttering that makes the game a chore to play despite how good it actually is. I didn't like how he hever seemed to say what you tell him to say either, sometimes it seems like he comes out with the opposite line than what you chose.
