Eminem is the best example there.  Jackson's career went downhill pretty fast IIRC after the scandals started breaking, and Britney's career went downhill after the disses got worse than "crappy pop music".

It's only a great game to those who have never played a decent FPS in their entire life. There are at least 10 FPS's that blow Halo out of the water. And most of them are on the PC.

I guess it depends on who plays them.

This illustrates the Halo hate perfectly.  It's a genuinely great game, and if that's what fans had called it no-one would be hating.  But they said "BEST FPS EVER" which is just plain wrong, and that's why fans of Half-Life 2 and whatnot got all upset and started dissing Halo. 

Once the Xbots started saying "BEST GAEM EVAR" the war could not be stopped.  (And yes, everyone who said that and meant it is an Xbot.)

What are you talking about? Michael Jackson had a great career run! Even his lack luster album in 2001 sold over 2 million albums! 2 freakin million, yeah no where near the 50 million of thriller but by all accounts thats still popular. Even Michael Jackson worst is spectacular compared to the million and millions of artists that dont succeed at all.  Britney Spears hate is fueling her more and more. Who elese can be such a wreck and still have the most  down loaded song on I tunes?

I think Microsoft wants the war to continue. Even when the orange box hit the xbox, it didnt come with much of a bang. I think 250k sold?? Hate SElls!

A more recent example of this is Mario Party 8 ... It is easily (one of) the worst Mario Party games ever created and yet it is already the best selling Mario Party game, and will likely increase those numbers and end up leading by a wide margin. The truth is that popularity is not typically associated with quality ...

As I was pointing out earlier, the 'hate' for a lot of things come from people who feel that the success is undeserved; people hate Paris Hilton because there are hundreds of thousands of starving artists who are far more talented in every pursuit Paris has attempted, and yet they go unnoticed because a spoiled rich girl had a sex tape ...

50 million in 198x --> 2 million in 2001 = DOWN-FREAKING-HILL 

Anyone who was that popular acquires a diehard fanbase that will never ever abandon him. 

I've deliberately refrained from paying much attention to Britney Spears, so I'm not going to get into a detailed argument about that -- I'd have to research my arguments and ruin years of work.

I don't know about hate, I'm just glad that almost all the Xbox 360 "exclusives" are currently available for the PC or will be in the future. If it keeps up this way I may be able to go through this generation without having to buy an Xbox 360 at all. The games I want to play for the system are pretty much the ones that sit atop Metacritic:

1 BioShock 2007 96
2 Orange Box, The 2007 96
3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2007 95
4 Gears of War 2006 94
5 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The 2006 94
7 Halo 3 2007 94

2 million is still great and far from dead. Michael Jackson can still fill a concert today though. And keep in mind that he's not 22 anymore either. And comparing to thriller success is insane to keep up with. No one can keep up with that. Who sells 50 million+ copies of one album today? Is leonardo Dicaprio no longer talented cause every movie he does doesnt bring in Titanic type numbers?

Halo appeals to casuals. Thats where the success is and where hard core pc gamers get confused the hell out of. Half life, rainbow six, ect. doesnt appeal to them. Halo is a easy to pick up and play game for anyone. Rainbow six, ghost recon, and counter strike type games are way too difficult for most casuals. LIke 2 bullets usually kills you.
