Forums - Gaming Discussion - wii for hardcore gamers (Miyamoto interview)

here's the full interview: www.gamepro.com/nintendo/wii/games/features/107845.shtml

here's a quote: "I prepared myself for the possibility that Wii might face an uphill battle in America, so to see that it has become this big of a hit is something I wasn't particularly expecting... There are other enhancements to the Wii interface and developments being planned that are going to really make games for hardcore players a lot more fun and interesting... A lot of people have the misunderstanding that Nintendo is not interested in network gaming."

hopefully, the gag order that nintendo had for its stock option business will be soon over and we'll finally see enhancements like the ones miyamoto promises... can't wait for folders and real online...

sorry.

fixed.

So Nintendo have changed their mind and now the hardcore gamers are important. The Wii is selling very well and it seems to late to try compete with PS3/360 in that departement. Nintendo should do what they are good at instead and its already working with 6m consoles sold. Hardcore gamers are minority and I am one of them that is why I dont have a Wii, it is not giving me the full experience I need.

well, why can't they both put out some Brain academy / Wii health / pokemon / nintendogs  (for the very casuals)  AND some more hard core stuff like FPS. Who wouldn't want to play a GOOD fps on wii where you can shoot arcadelike . One of the main reason i play fps only on PC is the controls which suck on consoles. Wii can change that and attract tons of "hardcore gamers"

and i don't think they changed their mind. It was probably planned to appeal first to casuals, since fanboys don't need incentives and hardcore have the ressources to invest in it later on when it proved it could compete with the rest.

I don't think that they have changed their mind, Nintendos goal for Wii as always been for everybody. Hardcore gamers is also a part of everybody.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

This is the first time Nintendo have released a "true" networkable console - and one that can upgrade itself. I think people will be amazed when they see some of the ideas Nintendo has for online.

The Wii is starting to *really* scare me. Firstly - its still selling out, worldwide. Its all about production at the moment.

Then new games are being released out of nowhere. And now (tonights news), Mario Strikers supports online battles - and it will be out in under 2 months (in Europe anyway). Add this to NiGHTS, RE4 remake, Super Paper Mario, Oopooma (sp?), various music games (Disney sing game, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Wii Kareoke) .. Im going to be broke long before Metroid, Galaxy, Smash Bros (etc) will be near release :P

could this have something to do with this?

Sadly Tanaka-san does not believe the Wii hardware would be able to cope with Final Fantasy XI, which was sad to hear since the game has already appeared on the far inferior PlayStation 2. When pressed on this matter, it was revealed that the problem lies more with Nintendo’s current online stance – not wanting people to interact online without the aid of Friends Codes. However, the key point to mention is that Square Enix is currently in talks with Nintendo about resolving this point of contention!
