Forums - Sony - I know why the ending of God of War 2 was so frustratingly awful!

wow, is it so hard to press 4 buttons?

Have you played that part?  It's brutal.  I guess I must just suck at QTE's and I'm fine with that because QTE's suck.

They literally give you no time at all to react and it's just bullshit.  There's no skill in it, it's just reaction time and knowing the controller.  It's stupid and it sucks.  I had to watch that damn cut scene where Zeus hits you with the sword and the part where you hits you with lightning and you spam O even though it does nothing I could probably still recite the whole damn thing.

In general, the QTE's are easy, but those ones they just give you no time.  I've even asked people around the office just to make sure I'm not crazy and they all have said (even the huge God of War fans) that part sucked balls with most of them wanting to rage quit like me.

So I guess congrats to yall that say it's easy, you succeed at one of the worst trends in gaming.

It's really not brutal. It's the breather that comes at the end of the battle.

If that part made you crazy, do not play God of War 3. I'm telling you now: run from it.

You have plenty of time to react in GoW - all of them - but if yo ucan't do it then yo ucan't d it, and God of War 3  is going to make you a sad panda.

Also twesterm stop flamebaiting it's not cool.

that's funny, i remember the QTE's being challenging but nowhere near as frustrating as you found them.

art is the excrement of culture

lol, i know exactly how you feel twesterm. i eventually broke down at let the game move me down to easy difficulty at zeus. i felt like quite the pussy.

not sure if you've played GoW III yet but they changed up the quick time events a little - they moved the button alerts to the side of the screen (up/down/left/right) corresponding the the direction of the button you are suppose to be pushing. made it tons easier to react quickly to the QTEs and also easier to take in the carnage. personally, i think it made the whole thing much better.

Do you think you could cry more?

Zeus was a hard fight, but he's not describing difficulty with the fight itself - jsut the QTEs, which Easy mode wouldn't have changed.

Actually, one of my friends told me how they do it in God of War 3 and I think I greatly prefer that to how they did in the previous games.  I actually have a pretty quick reaction time, just translating the symbol on the screen to the controller isn't so quick (and it's not like two seconds, I hit it pretty quick).

In God of War 3 I can translate region of the screen to region of the controller much quicker so when I eventually play that game I don't expect to be so angry (though I still hate QTE's).

Yeah, the Zeus fight was pretty simple actually.  I just trapped him with Krono's Rage when he didn't have his sword so he couldn't do shit and when he had the sword it was easy to dodge everything so I barely got hit the whole fight.  It was just those QTE's that made it hard and moving it to easy didn't do anything for it.  ;_;

It took me baout three hours in the original to map to my thumb's reflexes where each button is. I still hav about a fifth of a second delay, but that's more than enough time. I practiced against Cyclopes, since they had (I believe) four button sequences to kill them in the first game, totally randomized, and didn't damage you too much if you failed.

I'm actually surprised you managed to beat two games without memorizing where the freaing buttons are. If that's the level to which you learned the game's system, then your death count has to be astronomical - did you get through the combat just wailing on Square, too?

God of War II's ending was frustrating in a lot of ways, but the QTEs weren't one of them, especially in the context of the game where they weren't any harder than just killing a Cyclops.

Killing the Cyclops wasn't hard because they gave you time to react.  I'd miss them every now and then when I wasn't paying attention or just spamming square, but as long as I was paying attention I would get them.

The Zeus and Aries ones though, damn, they just give you no time and it sucks.  I've always just been bad at QTE's but I have gotten to a poitn where I can do them except those ones.  I can usually get X and triangle isn't so bad, just square and O always get me.

The QTE's that got me during the game were always the gorgon's when you reflected their gaze.  You had to be really quick on those ones too and with all the crap happening and being scared a fodder enemy is going to cheap shot you when you're stone just made me not even bother with those.

And damnit, you changed your avatar and it's not even one with a sour look!  I keep getting confused!

well yeah, if you're going to actually read my entire post it's obvious that my post was completely irrelavent.  but if you take my post at just a glance like i was expecting the main point of i got frustrated and wanted to commiserate still holds true.  xD
