I didn't know Sony invented the mobile music player =O

Not exactly. There's this guy called Andreas Pavel who invented the device in 1972, he took his invention to Philips and other companies but they turned it down (duh) latter in 1979 Sony started to sell walkmans (Andreas0s invention) but they didn't recognized Pavel as the inventor, later in 1986 they decide to pay fees BUT ONLY FOR THE GERMAN sales of the devices.

Yeah Sony pretty much is a heartless corporation that uses every single legal loop for its benefit. Back in 2003 Pavel started a new lawsuit and Sony decide to settle a new arrangement for a secret sum (some people says it for 10 millions) Also Sony decided to give Pavel credit for his invention .... after the death of Akio Morita, the guy who was credited before.

lol as opposed to all other corporations, who spend millions on lawyer fees just for fun.

Never mind... this wouldn't look good anyway for Sony.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Well to be fair, I don't think he said that it is necessarily doomed, or on its own, a complete failure, but he did imply that other companies are doing better by getting sales that Sony should have gotten, had they been able to position themselves properly.

It's like the 3D thing. Nintendo is now going to eat Sony's lunch with the 3DS by having the first dedicated 3D gaming device on them market without the requirement to wear glasses or buy a new TV.

3D was Sony's gimmick, but can you imagine the 3DS(once it gets into the minds of the general public for its new 3D gimmick) not eventually selling a hundred million units? Once again, that was Sony's lunch. 3D. They just aren't going to get to the market with it, and by the time they do, it'll be old hat.

The 3DS is effectively a core gamer extension to the DS lineup which positions it right amid PSP territory. This is an attack on both the PSP and a PSP2 if it ever eventuates. Sony can no longer be considered a viable competitor to Nintendo in the handheld space because of it. They have to win the same battle of acceptance against steep pro DS odds if they ever want to release a PSP2. They won't have the benefit of people assuming success this time either.

As far as Sony and 3D gimmicks go, its their gimmick so long as a new console doesn't get released. A console could be released cheaper than the PS3 today with much more performance and the native enhancements required to do both 3D and Full HD simultainously and efficiently. They would stand to lose the most from a new console because many of their advantages exist only because they have a bleeding edge console relative to other consoles.  They also stand to gain the least from releasing a new console as well, so strategically they are vulnerable if either Microsoft or Nintendo decides that its in their best long term interests to release a next generation console in 2010/2011.

Tease.

Actually no, Ive stated this before. It IS NOT SONY that is behind the 3D push. Its Hollywood in general.

"Is the PSP doomed?"

You tell me.

If it was technically possible and Sony launched an enhanced version of the PSP Go that had a flash-memory format for store-bought games rather than UMD the PSP would have stood a chance against both the iPod and the Nintendo DS; unfortunately for Sony it wasn’t possible, and several design decisions crippled the PSP.

While I’m certain people will disagree, in my opinion the main mistake Sony made was going with UMD; and for Sony to be pushing another unwanted video format onto the market. While I have always preferred the form factor of an 8cm optical disc over a full sized disc, an optical disc is a bad choice for a portable electronics device because it is not energy efficient and efforts to increase how efficient it is tend to result in longer load times (because the disc is often stopped or run at a slower speed and latency is added as the disc is spun to read data). Beyond that, DVD discs (and most of their derivatives) are not durable so they require a case; and the case and game are large enough that it takes away from their portability.

If the PSP Go had a fair pricetag, ~100$, it could have been a huge success.
