Forums - Nintendo - Will the 3DS allow us to watch 3D movies?

I think the 3DS will make a killing if they include a feature to let us watch portable versions of 3D movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.  It shouldn't be too much of a stretch for them to include this feature.  Ipods have had portable video playback for 5 years now.  All 3DS needs is a big enough hard drive to let us store a few portable movies.

I think it would be epic to include 3D movies on this system, especially since it will be a long time before the 3D TV is widely incorporated into most homes.

It all depends on what exactly Nintendo means by 3D, and the method they're using.

Yeah, we can't say anything yet. There's no way we can find out how the 3D will be done until E3.

probably not, this is nintendo after all

Going by nintendo's history i would say no. They seem to focus on gaming, and are not interested in movie playback with their devices.

I can already say with confidence that it wont have the feature to watch movies in 3d, simply because the 3ds won't use the same technique for 3d imagery.

No. Nintendo won't be distributing that type of media, so there's no reason for them to facilitate it.

Nah, don't see it happening. Then again, never say never, especially concerning Nintendo. GBA had movie playback after all...

I only read a little about the supposed tech that's going to be in this but my understanding is that the image displayed is unremarkable, it's the front layer of the screen which produces the 3D effect. If that were the case then the fact that the tech is different wouldn't matter, it would just need to be capable of playing a regular movie feed. I could be wrong though.
