Can't decide out of this lot:

Science:
- Charles Darwin
- Albert Einstein
- Watson & Crick
- Archimedes
- Imhotep (Egyptian medic and architect, much of Hipocrates' teachings were based on Imhotep's, but Imhotep did it over 1000 yrs before)

Civilisations:

- Ramses II
- Genghis Khan (supposedly 1 in 10 people can trace their ancestry directly to this guy... frisky bugger)
- Alexander the Great
- Julius Caesar

Not sure about greatest but influential:

Religion:
- Jesus Christ
- Emperor Constantine
- Mohammed
- Buddha

And just for laughs:

Finctional:
- Gordon Freeman
- JC Denton
- Solid Snake
- Mario
- Link
- Master Chief
- Shepard
- Neo
- Emperor Palpatine
- Darth Revan

This is a good starting list... but then again... who are all these names you speak of.  I'm from Xu'Sishilthe, and our great leader Karuth Kel Xuxik is the greatest to ever live.

how do we trace our ancestry?

I wanna know my past... I don't know anything past my dad's grandfather...

You're reading his post this very second.

4 ≈ One

Shiggy
Hidekaz himaruya
or
George Carlin

There is a huge number of men and some women, throughout history that have done immense achievements to further humankind.

I can't name a single one since that would be minimizing, however one does come to mind who instituted order.

Ur-Nammu has made the first recorded set of laws, about 300 years before Hamurabi. Some of those laws should be brought back in today's society since things are really getting out of hand.

Chuck Norris?!

i could never answer this question. top 100 would have been easier.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

You just go to a city's archive where your family lived. There's all kind of sources on how to trace back your ancestry and know what they did in the past. I had to do it for school. I'm somewhere at the 1500s now.

Abraham Lincoln
Winston Churchill
Martin Luther King Jr.
All the troops that fought for America
Chuck Norris
