A comeback to what ?

to when it "playstation made profits : no
to when playstation was 1st in home console market share : certainly not
to when playstation was not last : even that, no

I'm sorry but this is not as much a comeback as a failed attempt to a comeback.

No they are not last anymore fighter... Dont know where you found that information. Even lifetime would be equal if it would have been release at the same time. Profit has nothing to do with comeback in popularity. You need to hate PS3 and Sony to say that starting september 2009 there was no comeback in sales and popularity of the PS3. Whatever is the other console sales, PS3 more than double is own sales since then, quite a comeback there considering PS2 was the highest selling console and then PS3 was doomed.

If i liked or hated a brand that would make me a fanboy. I have no loyalty to any brand sorry.

As for "lifetime would be equal if" you said it yourself, "if".

The question is not "would it be a comeback if ?" but "is it a comeback ?".

The answer is no, and without "ifs" whatsoever.

I said "even if" just to add more to my argument. PS3 is already selling more than 360  anyway lol.

1. That comment about bragging was about all fanboys. When company ... does this ... then it will destroy the competition. I'm sure you have read many of them. I have.

2. Yes, what else. The PS3 isn't in competition with itself.  What else does it get compared too?

3. IF being called 'doomed' is a comeback, then all consoles had like 3 of them. How many times have i not read that about any console, let alone the PC or handhelds.

It' still time for... What's that supposed to mean? I said it was my opinion, remember. Actually we're having a discussion about what to call a comeback, not really about consoles.

The meaning of comeback to me is very simple. It means coming back from a lower ranking place. And passing one or two competitors to begin with... and more to follow. What else does a comeback mean? I'm pretty sure that's the definition of it.

I would say the PS3 is gaining some serious ground on the competition. Sure, who wouldn't. That's how they would describe it in a sport or other context. But not as a comeback. You have to go up at least one place. You made a comeback when you pass guy before you. That's when they use the word. I certainly do.

Once the PS3 passes the Xbox360 numbers, i will gladly call it a comeback. I could even make a thread about it, when it happens! When it happens.

Total salesnumbers, man. That's why they put those important numbers on the front page of this site. Better monthly sales mean little when the first competitor is still some 5 million ahead.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

'Biggest comeback ever' would be the Nintendo launching the Wii. There's no topping that. Compared to that, the PS3 increase in sales is laughable.

Your right the Wii was a BIG comeback from Nintendo. I also think theres nothing bigger than that in the video games industry. Started at the most popular brand with Nintendo and Super-Nintendo. Last brand with the gamecube. And then boum, back to the most popular brand by an advance of 2/3.

LOL, but why total sales number to justify a comeback? They werent release at the same time so its not a good factor to use. Even if it would have been, still not a needed factor to evaluate a comeback.

Easy example here for people using the total sales number to justify a comeback: If a hockey team begin winning in a streak all year long. But the same hockey team perform badly for the last 10 years. Its only before those 10 years that they were good. Can we say its a comeback even if they have not more than the total win of the other teams?

Hell yes thats what we would say. They were good, then bad, then very good again. Thats exactly what we call a comeback whatever the total numbers of win or sales.

Indeed. In 3 short years, Wii sold more than Nintendo's (up until then) best-selling console, NES, did in its entire lifetime. And NES was sold from its release in 1983 to 2003, when it was officially discontinued. A mind-boggling 20 years. Furthermore, Wii surpassed its predecessor GameCube's lifetime sales in little over a year. Like I said, there's no topping that.

lol thats sure. But wait, its not a comeback until they sell 10 X more than PS3 and Xbox 360 combine lololol. jk

Or look at the other side of it. A basketball game is going on:

Team A has 57 points. Team B has 17. The game has only two periods left. It's looking like Team A has the game in the bag. However, in the last two periods Team B scores 60 points, while Team A scores 10. Obviously, Team B goes on to win the game.

Yep also a good example of a comeback. In our case tho, theres no need to pass the total number. Its not a competition where only the 1st will win.
