It only showed how PS3's problem doesn't come from its' entry price or its' size.

So no, not only is it not a comeback its' proof the whole PS3 business model was poorly designed.

Obviously the price was the MAIN issue.. I mean the PS3 wasnt even breaking 100k for a couple of weeks before its huge price cut..

now its selling well over 200k WITH shortages in the americas.

So now the PS3 Slim effect was bad? O_o

Too early to say. Nintendo are still far, far ahead and have many options available to them.

360 and PS3 have been see-sawing for almost 5 years now. Maybe the motion controls will give one a definitive edge.

Beating the Xbox360 may be called a comeback.

Taking the wii may be called a biggest comeback ever.

The PS3 has not done either. It's just selling a lot better. And bragging about a forced 100$ pricecut like it was part of some plan, is rather silly. Why do people always forget that Sony's hand was forced - big time for Sony's part! Like Nintendo's was last year of Microsoft's before that.

In my opinion the PS3 isn't making a comeback.

Its pretty obvious cutting price was part of the plan to make PS3 more accessible. When you release a home console at 600$ you know that only your hardcore fan will purchase it. And then slowly cut the price to make it more accessible while not loosing too much money was the obvious plan. And yes since september it have outsold xbox so there goes your " The PS3 has not done either". With the growing interest in HD, 3D and blu-ray, the PS3 at 199$ (in 1-2 years) will sell like hotcake. PS3 still has a lot of potential sales. 299$ is not a pricetag for casual nor impulsive purchase. Its not because you prefer another console that you need to be blind and a hater.

Blind and hater??

first of all: All consolesmakers dropped the price because they had too. I just said that Sony had the biggest need for it. Which is true.

By beating the Xbox360: i mean passing its' total numbers off course. What else?

With another 2 year (likely start of a new generation) there is little chance that the PS3 wil pass the Xbox360 numbers. Microsoft is really keen on keeping it that way.

Lastly:

By any measure, a comeback is not a comeback when your ranking doesn't change. That's true and accepted in any competition.

I think its a pretty big comeback it beats the 360 since the price cut every week. wii was out of reach always the pricecut did the trick imo this year will be the biggest ever for the PS3. It went from almost dead toa stable second place sales wise is good.

Ranking doesnt change ? What do you expect the PS3 to close a 8 Million gap within 6 months ? Even if the PS3 would have sold Wii like numbers it wouldnt be able to close the 8 Million gap.

Look at the yoy increase and say its no comeback. 2009 looked horrible worse then 2008 until the pricecut and after the pricecut everything changed it managed even to sell more then the 360 in the peak year by 2 Million units despite beeing down before the pricecut thats an comeback in my eyes. PS3 was often 3rd place before the pricecut. And after it it was a stable second place.

Compare September 2008-march 2009 and September 2009 and March 2010.

That's the whole point, isn't? The 'ranking' is about total salesnumbers. It was in every generation, in this one and the next one.

Sure, the PS3 is selling far better then ever, but it's still in last place. And it's chances of getting to second are slim.

A comeback would involve beating it's competitors on a weekly basis until it's in the lead. It's not even doing the first part, aside from the 360.

You decided that a comeback would mean beating its competitors on a weekly basis until its in the lead... What about the PS3 is doomed part, do you still read people saying that? Thats a great comeback in my opinion.

Wow, so people not calling it doomed at the moment = biggest comeback ever....

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Just looking at how badly the PS3 is demolishing the 360 each week, I'd say it was a pretty good comeback. Easily the biggest gaming related comeback in history.

I know the PS3 isn't going to pass the Wii anytime soon, but I'd still call it a comeback. The PS3 couldn't even manage 100k sales before the price drop and developers were threatening to stop supporting it (Activision and I think one other) and now even Valve admitted they should have worked more on the PS3.

Nobody can say this isn't a comeback of sorts. Well actually I wouldn't call it a comeback, maybe a turnaround or turn of events.

1.first of all: All consolesmakers dropped the price because they had too. I just said that Sony had the biggest need for it. Which is true.

2.By beating the Xbox360: i mean passing its' total numbers off course. What else?

With another 2 year (likely start of a new generation) there is little chance that the PS3 wil pass the Xbox360 numbers. Microsoft is really keen on keeping it that way.

Lastly:

3. By any measure, a comeback is not a comeback when your ranking doesn't change. That's true and accepted in any competition.

1. You did not said that at all. You said: "And bragging about a forced 100$ pricecut like it was part of some plan, is rather silly." Do you think Sony thought: "ok we will release a 600$ console and leave it like that." No, its obvious they would lowered the price as soon as they can, that was part of their business model. I agree they all needed to lower their price, if its what you thought thats not what you said.

2. So we will only be alowed to call it a comeback when it will go over total xbox numbers?

3. Passing from being doomed, to being the second console in sales is quite a comeback.

It is still time to realise your wrong instead of getting deeper and deeper into fanboy comments.
