I'm sure that they could possibly use paging tricks like what they did in the NES/SNES, where they can change memory pages into the main ROM address bus.

cool!
so what were we talking about again? oh yeah Pokemon in 3D... It seems the excitement for a game like that has died out. it is like people have given up hope or something. or people are still at school, work or are out doing something :P
anywho think about it, running around with you fave Pokemon alongside your friends. training them, caching them or running away from them. Challenging your friends about who has the strongest Pokemon or the rarest one or who has the most of them. umm yay?
well i think it's YAY!! :D lol I'm so old for this...

Well, Gold and Silver were just released, and it is usualy at least a year between handheld Pokemon titles, so I assume they will release the 5th Pokemon generation along with the 3DS.

also, they would have to make about 600ish 3-d pokemon models. I wouldn't call that an easy task
come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1
you can view a few screenshots from the game in my photo album here; http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=2312
yes, this is vonboy's alt account. i can't log into my original account, and i'm not sure if i will ever be able to.

What your talking about would almost be like a world of war craft thing. They would have A LOT of work to do. They would have to separate it into chapters for one. That and it would mean that the story of Pokémon would have to follow a more linear story. Without the possibility of being able to just roam freely after the Elite four. Another thing about Pokémon is that it allows you to take what ever route you please. You might be able to take route (insert number here) or instead you can take route (insert other number here) What your asking is technically impossible. It would require a lot of power and basically its own system. Not to say I wouldn't play it if it came out no matter how shitty (Pokémon Red was my FIRST handheld game EVAR!). I'm just saying that it would require a lot of power. Power that isn't available quite yet.

FFXIII is 3D. And it's linear as hell. I'm sure Game Freak can make the leap to 3D while keeping the game structure familiar.
My themeforest portfolio:
If the battle system became 3D, I could see a few drawbacks to this:
1. Battles would take substantially more time to execute, all for the sake of the animation. Look at Pokemon Stadium compared to the original Red/Blue
2. In order to express more detail towards special moves, the newer generations of Pokemon have adopted a style of effects that is rather comical, and gives the games a unique charm. Those effects would be difficult to keep in a 3D battle system, and if they did, they wouldn't suit the layout.

But thats what I'm saying. look at FF13 you are basically running down a long corridor. Pokémon you can go any direction and to do something like this would be a big killer...

i don't get what you guys are saying... why not make it like a Zelda game world i mean look at OoT it was on N64 and if Mario 64 could run on the DS a Pokemon game could easily be made on the new 3DS.
this though needs a bigger team to make the Pokemon and their moves and sounds and i don't see why Nintendo couldn't get a team to do this. Pokemon will not stay 2D forever, it will be in 3D sooner or later and i think this is the right time as it needs a breath of fresh air.
they already have lots of Pokemon models that they used in previous games on the home consoles. it is easy just use those models and modify them.

I don't see how copying Zelda will make it a "breath of fresh air". If anytihng, it's following the same path as one of Nintendo's other franchises.
When did top-down 2D become a sin? Why does everything have to be in that horrible 3D "over the shoulder" perspective? There's not enough degree of view.
