The guy that says "Its a me mario! Oh oh!" and does the same thing every game, rescue peach from bowser, is as deep as Kratos in god of war?
What an opinion you have...

I think that people should also take a look at Kratos while considering where he was born, how he lived his life and how he was trained to live his life. People know the way Spartans were trained and selected and that will be reflected in his personality. These guys were warriors and if you have a warrior who has lost everything and who to begin with displayed little mercy in his actions, then you have Kratos. Not everyone may like a character like him but that does not mean that he is a hollow character.
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I loved GoW 1, but Kratos himself is too one-dimensional.

That is such a well worded, well thought out answer :D I wish many people do this and also would play more than one game in the series to judge a game or a character

*minor spoiler*
I agree except I don't think the princess of posiden or w/e deserved to die. He didn't kill her directly admitadly but he did leave he to die holding the switch.
Still, I like Kratos, and most of his actions are perfectly understandable. Plus with the presence of an underworld death isn't absolute, and in turn it's not really so serious killing random innosents. If they were worthy they'd be in Elysium (where the heroic and virtuous reside after death) a paradise within the underworld.
