Forums - PC - PC shooters

So shooters are easier to play with a mouse and keyboard. That's breaking news. Is this site doing non-console numbers now? Why is it filling up with PC 'experts' daily putting lowly console gamers 'In Their Place'? Maybe they could go brag on a pc site. I'm no online guy but anyone who thinks the best players on the Gears, MW and Halo boards have no skills has absolutely no clue.

Keyboard&Mouse are to most efficient and precise way to play FPSs but still I would prefer the wiimote setting for most games (not every one....Unreal Tournament it's meaningless on anything but PCs)Wiimote It's not as efficient but it is more fun and with that I could play games on a TV sitting on the sofa insted of in front of the desk.

So your saying Bad company 2 (PC) is better than Killzone 2????????

Heh, but it's so obvious in BC2 that Engineers easily get incredible scores from just repairing. I would not use score as an argument when comparing player skills, I thought no one did in BC2. K/D is much more important, but even that is hard to use as a metric since there's some overpowered guns and tactics in BC2(the Carl Gustav-guys, and the M60 & also the noob-tube to some extent). Also, you can be a very sneaky and cautious player in BC2, avoiding getting killed and thus getting a high K/D, but it don't necessarily mean that you are skilled.

I understand your craving for the adrenaline kicks. It's not good for your health in the long run though.

I know I have a really low K/D since I usually just go in front shoot up a bunch of people, then I end up dead but get several kills. Then I die twice because some guy was hiding behind a rock and got lucky enough to see me as I sprint right past. If I get hit in UT or Quake from behind, there is a really good chance I can still color the floor red with their gibs, not so much in this game.

Also, UT and Quake had really nice weapon balance. Yeah the lowest number weapons weren't all that hot, but even the biorifle and the shotgun could do some damage, meanwhile all the later guns were all equal yet different and only depended on the person's skill in how effective they are. In modern games, like BC2, I just run around with my 40MM or that one medic gun and just kill huge amounts of people. If you are going to have a game based on startegy and not skill, then you REALLY need to have a balance and I can't name any game that hasn't failed in it in some way.

I'm pretty much the same, my K/D ratio on any FPS is usually pretty low. However, in a lot of the more tactical games stealth in itself is an important skill. I used to love crawling around in CoD and taking people out.

My problem is that I just don't care about deaths. I usually have an overwhelming number of deaths, even in UT/Quake. I'll have something like 25 frags and 35 deaths. I'd still be the first, but yeah, I just don't play a lot of defense.

That's exactly me lol. No defense. It's what punished me at first in BC2, I was pure run and gun.

I've adapted to BC2 though to some extent, but Im still the guy who often gets the most deaths on my team, but quite many kills too (I'm 0.91 K/D). I hate defensive tactics and I tend to get pissed off at my defensive squad mates for not supporting me on the offense.

Maybe I should just play Call of Duty.

This is the PC Discussion forum, in case you hadn't noticed. Also, a lot of console owners (myself included) are PC gamers as well and enjoy both.

FPSs on consoles>>>>>>>FPSs on PCs IMO. FPSs on PC are too boring and easy. FPSs on consoles are much more fun, especially on Wii.

I mean really? I'd like to play you on Quake Live to see just how "easy" it is for you.

well, i never played Quake before, but if you want 1vs1 on killzone 2 or on warhawk, just message me

Oh no, you said PC games. Go to Quake Live and let's have a game on this "easy" game.  It's completely free too and it runs on the oldest of PCs. I can send you my handle on there as well so you can give me a holla when you are set.

I also need to have this explained. You never player Quake and you say PC shooters are easy? Please tell me you have at least played the UT games before the 3rd one so I know you weren't just lying and talking out of your ass.

First, the PC is in the title of the wbesite, there are PC games in the database, and there is a PC forum.

Second, maybe it's filling up with more PC owners because the console players are graduating to be big boys now and start playing genres meant for the PC on the PC. I know I don't bother with shooters too much on consoles, as I said, they are best for quick local multiplayer and can be quite fun for those. If you are feeling threatened there are better ways to deal with it than sounding like a complete fool.

Third, the best players on PC will school the best players of the games you mentioned. There is a reason why none of the 3 games you listed allow cross play between the 360 and the PC.

Look, you don't see me going around and praising games like Psychonauts and how amazing they are on the PC, though in this case it really is, or fighting games, or other types of those games. That is because they are obviously much worse on the PC, until you get a joystick but that's a changing the goal posts, than they are on consoles. It would be nice if you stopped living in the denial that the PC is the home of the shooter genre.

I totally understand, though I think Call of Duty just outright blows as a video game. It throws any strategyand tactics out the window and yet it doesn't offer the badassery of fast games. Basically it has absolutely nothing going for it.

I stopped running and and killing people left and right. For the longst time the knife was my top weapon because I would sit around the edges of a map and hunt people Rambo style. I think it still has the most kills out of any other weapon for me. Then I took a break and I have been doing the whole run and gun deal again and it has been working for me about as well as it did before. Though I get killstreaks of 8 or more, I also die tons of times.

the worst part in all this is that PC shooters are harmed by consoles... we now have DLC, matchmaking and other shitty advantages of the consoles...hell MS even tried to make it pay to play a few years back...

I have a nice list of things that are horrible mechanics for shooters that stem solely from the inadequate shooter control schemes of consoles, also their mostly skill-less audience:

-DLC

-Regenerating health

-Matchmaking

-Limited guns being able to be carried

-Following from the previous, shitty gun concepts and not much variation

-Slow ass games, way slow, I grow a 5 o'clock shadow any time I try to turn 180 degress in Halo 3, GoW, CoD, etc.

-Repetative gameplay, seriously look at how varied HL2 is then look at Gears of War

-Decline of skill based games, and an astounding rise of luck based games. At least back in 2000 CS players knew heir places behind Quake/UT players, now people are actually arguing with me how Halo 3, CoD4, MW2, etc. take more skill than Quake and UT.

-Leveling systems in multiplayer. I realize BF2 did i first and I hated it for it, but now it's just getting rediculous.

-Zero modding tools and SDKs. Epic releases the entire UE engine for everyone who buys the game. You know the one that is used in lke 20% of all current games? Yeah that one. You get  literally the whole thing and you can make amazing games without a hitch as long as youdon't charge for it.

-Shitty models. Look at the variety of models HL, TF, Quake, UT, etc. had, and now look at the variety of models, which conosist of Marine 1, and at best Soldier 1. Then you can add little bells and whistles to "customize" them which make no fucking difference in the middle of the action.

I feel that's a nice list, I am sure I have more greviances but I just can't come up with them. I will end this with a very nice thing that I do like about console shooters:

-Local multiplayer, it's fucking awesome, and while it's nowhere near as awesome and badass as a LAN party, it's very fast and it doesn't have to be premedited. A shooter on a console is absolutely worthless without local multiplayer.

Great list. I agree with most of it.
