Maybe they didn't have enough room in their warehouses for new product so they sold them early?

For the majority of games, USA sales = Americas sales * 0.9. Obviously that doesn't work for American football, Ice hockey and a few other things

You know, I was thinking the same thing. However, I'm trying to use this data for a thesis that will rely on small changes to make statistical arguments (still have to run the statistical tests), so that might make it difficult for academic purposes. Do you know of any source that states what percantage of American sales=USA sales? Since my primary interest will be hardware sales, so does the USA make up the vast majority of hardware sales too?

Well 0.9 is the figure used by the staff on this site, they certainly use it for both software and hardware, as shown in the link below. If you wish to know more, I would recommend talking to either the author of this article (VGChartz name thesource) or the owner of the site (ioi)

Damn, that helps a ton thanks a lot.
Saying it's not just the U.S. isn't a good reason. Generally the U.S. makes up about 90% of the Americas market. If it sold over 400,000 copies in the rest of the Americas (this is assuming that Nintendo released the console a week later in every American country but the U.S., which makes absolutely no sense), then we would have to assume that the Gamecube would launch to about 3.5-4 million in the U.S. week one (about equal to the Gamecube's lifetime sales in Japan).
It's possible that Vgchartz is counting the midnight launch (well, I would assume it was a midnight launch) of the Gamecube as being on the 17th. That's my only possible explanation.

Yeah, I can't imagine too much being sold in Mexico...I'm just wondering how release date differ.
