A casual reviewer?

What would be the point?

fair reviews of casual games?

Regardless of whether it is a book, movie, musical album, or videogame there are a lot of creative-entertainment products that are produced with little intention of suiting the needs of the snobby-elitist. With the exception of videogames, most professional reviewers take this into consideration and the approach they take with their review is better suited to the product that is produced.

Beyond this, outside of videogame reviews most reviewers actually use the whole review scale to represent the quality of the product they’re reviewing to make the review more meaningful. If you regularly read movie or book reviews that are based on a 5 star scale you get the impression that 1 star is bad, 2 stars is below average, 3 stars is average, 4 stars is good, and 5 stars is great; but in the videogame review scale 3 and below would be considered bad, 4 is average and 5 is the score that any game worth playing would get. While many movie or book reviewers are abstracted from the need to appeal to publishers or movies studios because they work for a newspaper or magazine that has a variety of advertisers, the typical videogame reviewer is (entirely) in the pocket of the videogame industry and rarely has the guts to give a score that is below 60% to any game an advertiser is pushing; many Wii games (like Just Dance) are not really hurt by this because they're not major games for the publisher and are not pushed hard.

Reviews for the masses.

If a gaming website leveraged it right, it could be huge for them. Of course it would run the risk of alienating whatever audience the major sites still have...

Im just trying to say that it seems casual games are reviewed with the hardcore gamer in mind which dosn`t make sense, it almost automaticly relegates them to poor scores, hence why most gamers see casual games as crap

Buck the trend then, review the next one of these you buy and do it from what you consider to be a casual perspective on its quality. A 'fair review of a casual game', to paraphrase what you posted above.

Ill take that challenge : )

The masses already get the only 'reviews' that interest them from Fern Britton and Jamie Redknapp. For all you Americans that's like, errr, Oprah and Kobe Bryant.

I can't wait for your review O.D.C

My mom is never going to IGN, VGCHARTZ, EDGE to get reviews of games. She will go to walmart, look for the most fun looking game to her and buy it.

What should happen is hardcore site should just do a preview of these games, no scores, just an idea since they can't tell if it's good or not.

even if there were casual reviewers, the casuals wouldnt read it, it would phail...thats why they are casual gamers...they casually play a game that looks like fun, i agree that a casual reviewer would see casual games like just dance differently...but no one would read it, hardcores are hardcores because they truly care about gaming, and accept it as part of thier lives
