suck to have your luck, lol. but i'd recomend replacing your HD. If the problem is overheating, it is usually solder dripping off the HD, ending the circuit, forcing the PS3 to not work. This is mainly the problem with the 360 and the RROD, but PS3s usually dont haver this problem as much, especially what the Slim owners say. You can buy any laptop size internal hard drives and swap it in. If its a 2.5" HD then it can work. If its 3.5" just like a PC HD then it won't, but you can pick up a 2.5" 320GB for under $100 now a days.

well it's little late this time but I very well might get a larger hard drive for my next one.

Ignore that post - they don't know what they're talking about.  If you have solder dripping from your HDD, that means your PS3 is on fire.

If your PS3 got a YLOD, then most likely the solder that attaches the CPU or GPU to the motherboard has developed cracks from the expansion and contraction caused by your PS3 heating up and cooling down.  As far as I know, it's the same issue that causes the RROD on 360's, but the better cooling on the PS3 makes it less frequent.

Try to get Sony to fix it for free, back up your HDD, sell your PS3 on EBay and get yourself a Slim.

If you are adventurous, you can try to fix it yourself by following Gilksy's guide on YouTube.

For the record, my 60 GB PS3 died after 3 years and 3 weeks of use.  I kept fairly good care of it, but it still happened.  I managed to fix it using the method above, as I knew a friend who had access to all of the required tools.  However, I'm waiting for the new Slim to come out and I'll most likely get that once my PS3 fails again, since mosts of the posts I read from people who fixed their YLOD PS3 have it break again within a few weeks or a few months.

The first one I had I got in Novenber 2007 and it died around June of last year had to spend $162.41.  The second one died 6months later in December so about twice the length of the warenty but less than a 3rd the time I had the first one it had it also had a fan that sounded like a jet engine so it was rather anoying cost to me again 162.41.  This last one lasted 92days.  The warenty is oficially 90 days but I sent and email and it looks like Sony will cover it unless they find any of the following :

- Signs of neglect, abuse or physical damaged
- That it has been modified outside of the factory specifications
- If the serial number label has been cut removed or tampered with .

considering I've done none of those I should be fine.  The ps3 was on a coffee table in from of the tv well pleanty of room for ventilation.  I would make sure that dust and hair wouldn't cover up the vents.  Which wasn't too hard because there never really was ever much.  I almost wish I was doing something wrong so I could then stop doing it and have things be fine.  Anyone else have problems this bad?  These all have been the 60gb version so the problem could be in the model yet I hear so many say that they have never had any problems with theirs.  I"m going to get this one fixed if Sony will cover the cost but if not I'm not sure.  I've already spent $344.82 just on getting the system fixed.  Another 162.42 would put that over $500.    Should I just go for a slim? I have a slim ps2 that works fine (last I checked anyway it's been a few years)  So I don't need it for the bc although it's nice to not have to have so many systems in a living room plus.  I just want to get back to playing some games  :( :(

Sony rips off the serial number and punches the PS3 a couple times and says you do it so that you pay for it...

i would just get a slim, but then again i dont care about b/c ...i play so many ps3 games i could care less about last gen

I still have a launch 60 gig that runs fine, but I also have a slim, and it's much quieter. If you're having that many problems, I would just go with a Slim. Sorry about your troubles. That sucks dude.

thats what I keep hearing all these 60gigs that run just fine.  Only the second one was loud but even then it's not as loud as my wii has gotten.

I bought my 60 gig in Dec 2006 and the blu-ray diode went out on me last August. Easy fix and I've been in business ever since. I feel for you, though. My brother-in-law just had the RROD on his 360. We all take excellent care of our stuff. It just happens sometimes.

I really am sorry didn't want to come off as a jerk. When I read it after I posted it I highly considered deleting it since it seemed a little rude. My apologies for my comments.
