Forums - Nintendo - Why has Japanese 3rd party support almost completely ceased for the Wii?

LordTheNightKnight said:
Developers can't get over the illusion that they decided the last two console generations, and that they want to decide this one.

it's not an Illusion it's I think has more to do with Nintendo's position on promotion of 3rd party software more than anything.

the very fact that Nintendo seem's to struggle with 3rd party every generation, except for handheld's has to make you wonder why?

why is it that Nintendo handheld's get this great  3rd party support, but yet do you see their DS handheld software for 3rd party get promotion?

but when it come's to the Game console what software get promoted the most on Nintendo machine's?

1st or 3rd party.

"it's not an Illusion it's I think has more to do with Nintendo's position on promotion of 3rd party software more than anything."

That isn't the context of what I wrote.

"the very fact that Nintendo seem's to struggle with 3rd party every generation, except for handheld's has to make you wonder why?"

I could buy the cost of the carts with the N64, but the GC didn't have any excuse (disc size only counted if a game couldn't do multiple carts, and only San Andreas did that), and neither did a new interface which is the supposed excuse for this system.

"but yet do you see their DS handheld software for 3rd party get promotion"

What do you mean? Do you mean Nintendo is supposed to do the marketing for the 3rd parties?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

It's been a very long time since any Japanese dev made a significant announcement and there aren't many upcoming games for the Wii from any Japanese dev. The most notable are Sengoku Basara 3 which is multiplat with the PS3 and DQX which might be 2 years away. Seems like this Year Nintendo might have to keep the Wii attractive all by themselves with SMG2, MoM, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Vitality Sensor and Zelda, because there's about nothing from the 3rd parties that could move any hardware or become a big hit. It's been happening since last year, when there were almost no big announcements and has been getting worse since then.

Why could this be? Devs know that there's a new Nintendo home console coming up soon? Devs will focus on the 3DS more and forget about home consoles? Devs think that the HD market is more lucrative and hence focus on them?

It's a mystery for me, with more than 10 million home consoles, Wii is getting about the same amount of games or less than the PS2 which is a dead console. What do you think?

They have been announcing plenty of handheld stuff. PS3 got some announcements as well as of late.

New FY could mean more games, but that has yet to be seen. If they didn't have any game for the Wii during TGS, I highly doubt that will change.

Oh yeah, I should probably make a point rather than just mocking (in a friendly manner) Tres' argument.

The only big announcements in a long time from any japanese 3rd party have been a new Monster Hunter for the PSP and Kingdom Hearts 3 being under development (unknown console and we are NOT opening up that can o worms) So by your logic tres all consoles except for the PSP are doomed. You've been predicting the Wii's doom for so long it's kinda lost all its meaning.

Now the question is, does Soriku or Nomura know more about KH?

Actually, that's a tricky one :P

Oh Scottie.

No matter how you put it, The PS3 still get more support than the Wii from third party developers. The reason only TRES is complaining is soly due to the fact NSMB Wii has somehow blinded you guys by the lack of support the last couple months. There have been no support, none for the Wii this year so far, but it sells anyway, and nobody notices.

So you're saying the Wii's 3rd party support level is both unchanged (ie it's always been low) and irrelevant (ie no effect on Hardware sales)? I then suggest that if there is no effect on the Wii as a whole, all that is left is to check if there's enough good games for ourselves personally

@scottie: Predicting doom? Not really, but you have to read the post properly to understand, for a minute I almost believed your "friendly mocking".
