lol....dude, you have to be kidding me. FPS games are NOT all the same = my opinion. FPS games ARE all the same = your opinion. Nobody has proven a fact, it's two different takes on the genre.
We don't agree, but it's not a fact either way.

Really? Really?
fact: a concept whose truth can be proved
opinioon: a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty
You can measure how similar games are and how different they are, therefore it is a fact. Now just because you think otherwise and at the same time don't want to think yourself as wrong, you try to pass it off as an opinion. Also keep in mind that there are such things as wrong opinions, such as people who held the opinion that the earth was flat back when it couldn't be verified, and their opinions were wrong. Just saying "oh it's my opinion" doesn't really mean shit, and really doesn't excuse people. It can be wrong, even if this subject isn't measureable and quantifiable, which it is, you can have a wrong opinion.

I can easily prove that "fact" wrong.
Killzone 2 is very different from Half-Life 2. Halo is very different from F.E.A.R. Resistance: Fall of Man is very different from GoldenEye 007 on the N64. The similarities: they are first person shooters. They don't feel the same, play the same, have the same weapons, or have the same aiming mechanics. If all FPS titles were the same, they would be judged and reviewed that way.
Therefore, you don't have any fact in saying that "all FPS titles are the same". They are not. Many have similarities, yes, but that doesn't make them the same. That's like saying all survival-horror titles are the same, all adventure games are the same, or that all racing titles are the same.
Perspective likeness =/= the same.

Except that only Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 ave come out this generation. Meanwhile Halo, FEAR, Half-Life 2, and especially 007, have all come otu during different stages. My calim was to FPSes the last several years, none of which you listed, very conveniently it would seem as well.
Also I don't know how much you have been playing but Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 feel extremely familar, at least that god-awful input lag of Killzone 2 and duck/lean system were there otherwise I could have sworn I was playing the same human vs alien in a gray/brown world with regenerating health where I can take 50 bullets and chill for 5 secs to remove saidt bullets game.
Perspective doesn't have aything to do with it, game mechanics do and in this geeration the differencec can be counted on your fingers between almost any 2 given FPS games. That's how you know when games are similar.
|
Btw, that last sentence, which you tried to stealth edit, agrees with me. Games can be similar, sure, doesn't make them "the same". Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 are FPS, but aren't the same. Left 4 Dead 2 & Halo 3 are FPS, but not the same.
Regardless, you can't prove your theory to be a fact. No way around it. Your feelings =/= facts.

I didn't stealth edit it, unless you mean an edit within 30 seconds for better clarity and spelling is somehow a stealth edit.
However I will concede that L4D is an original FPS, just like Metro 2033 and Portal. However I challenge you to list me 4 different FPS games that have significant differences between each other. I'm talking the difference between L4D and KZ2/R2/H3/etc. differences, not the none-existant differences between KZ2 and R2. Again it's not about how I felt, it's about how many gameplay differences there were, and the fact is I could probably count them on my findgers between those two games. I can bring in Halo 3 in as well and the difference between those 3 games is almost non-existant. Difference between CoD and those 3 is that instead of aliens it's other humans. I hop you get my drift.
