Yes, forever and ever.  Honestly, I think next fiscal year will be the last year we see the PS2 being produced, especially seeing how demand for it has dropped quite a bit.

@ steverhcp02

I think your analysis is probably the real reason there are shortages in the US.  It kinda sucks for us here, but it is a smart business practice.  Why sell more in a place where they are losing money on every console sold, when you can sell more in countries where they are most likely breaking even or making a small profit?  I think that the new model that they are working on, the one that alters components and drops the weight, was probably to address this issue.  When they start mass producing them next fiscal year, we will probably be done with these shortages.

I don't see anything wrong with it's sales.

They aren't bad considering the consoles age and the fact that this gen has already been in affect for 3/4 years.  But they have recently dropped below 50K/week and that is only going to keep going down.  So by the time the next fiscal year comes to a close in March '11, they probably won't even be pushing 25K/week.  So Sony would most likely see no point in keeping it on shelves (which may bring about a PS2 emulator to the Slims ).  That's why I think it will be the last fiscal year for the PS2.

I see. I think the rate at which the sales drop will slow down and stay higher than your prediction but who really knows.

Sony did make some changes, from what I have read in several different sources, also inside info from a developer at Lucas Arts, Sony is now making a profit of $63.37 on each 120 gig slim and a bit more on the 250 gig slim, So things are looking up, The shortage will go away soon, Look at all the exclusives Sony has dropped in like a month, MAG, Heavy Rain, GOW 3, Sony fans are buying Software, if you look at Sonys attack rate , and Sony entertainment inc, for software, they are in the top 2 or 3 , especially with GOW 3 releasing. Things will continue to keep rising for Sony, Going in to the beginning of there 4th year, with a 10 year life span , there will be plenty of money made for PS4, Back when all these threads were comming out about Sony folding and leaving the videogame industry, was the funniest threads I have ever heard, Sony is a lot smarter then people have any clue of.

Link please?

Yes, i would like a link also if you ever produce one as evidence.

I'm not saying the PS2 is bad, but it's demand will never be as high as the PS3's ever again.

They are just taking up space in the factories and retailers are probably wanting PS3's instead of PS2 (and PSP Go's).

Sony needs to continue pushing the PS3. It's where the momentum is at. I say milk the PS2 software wise, but hardware needs to halt.

They should have enough newly made PS2's to last retailers til this holiday, but around E3 they need to pull the plug.
