Forums - Sony - New PS3?

maybe they got 45nm rsx chip in em

sony dropped the ball big time they could of capitalized big time sales wise but if there still losing money on the old slim it would make sense not to sell loads of them if the new model is cheaper for them

its all about the money sony could of had supply easily but it would cost them

This is just a silly theory. I mean the losses incured would be made up by FF13 and GoW sales which... if they have no ps3s to sell they cant recoop those loses. So why forfiet their install base (possibly leaving the door open for MS to snag some) AND money being made?

I just now noticed that the early numbers for the PS3's sales in America are below 100k. Which is bad considering the system sold over 100k in the America's the week of FF XIII.

There goes my prediction of the PS3 outselling the Wii for the week.

It really is sad..

I honestly expected 150k for U.S hardware sales, had the system been in stock.. maybe even more..

the moment it becomes in stock on any online retailer, less than 10 mins later its backordered.

It is depressing that demand for the platform has remained so high for the PS3 for so long after the holiday season that they have blown through the inventory they had stocked up.

Of course they have sold over 12 million PlayStation 3 units since September 2009. Which is the best period of time for the great PS3.

They can only ship as many as they produce, and I think the big successes over the winter months burned through the stock of slims they had produced. I don't think anyone, including sony, anticipated the demand for the 299 slim and now they're playing catch up.

I'm sorry, but that's kind of bullshit. (pardon my language)

Sony had predicted to sell 13 million units for the year and that was only possible if the Slim + Pricecut hit as hard as it did.  They got pretty dang close to hitting that 13 million (not sure when their fiscal year ends but from Jan 09 to Jan 10 they had 12.4 million sales).  So as far as I can tell, they had planned for this big surge the whole time and maybe even OVER planned a bit so the shortages make even less sense considering what Sony themselves had expected.

Sony did make some changes, from what I have read in several different sources, also inside info from a developer at Lucas Arts, Sony is now making a profit of $63.37 on each 120 gig slim and a bit more on the 250 gig slim, So things are looking up, The shortage will go away soon, Look at all the exclusives Sony has dropped in like a month, MAG, Heavy Rain, GOW 3, Sony fans are buying Software, if you look at Sonys attack rate , and Sony entertainment inc, for software, they are in the top 2 or 3 , especially with GOW 3 releasing. Things will continue to keep rising for Sony, Going in to the beginning of there 4th year, with a 10 year life span , there will be plenty of money made for PS4, Back when all these threads were comming out about Sony folding and leaving the videogame industry, was the funniest threads I have ever heard, Sony is a lot smarter then people have any clue of.

end of march 2010 is sonys fiscal year i believe. not sure how that changes the total, but id imagine it changes it closer to 13 million, ill check.

Link please?

Nightsurge, from april 2009 to now, sans japans numbers this week, vgc has 12.72 million, pretty much right in line with 13 million, could be plus or minus some % to for margin of error.

Looks like ~12.8 million from End of March 2009 thru March 20th.  So one more week and they will be pretty much right on ~13 million.

Still seems fishy to me though that if they planned for this target all along and are still perfectly in line with that target, they shouldn't be having shortage problems unless something else was happening with production (or they didn't think they would reach it?).
