I find it odd that they would allow a shortage during the release of GOW3 so I'm wondering if those two new SKUs are more than just weight reduction. I think its safe to assume that these new SKUs are the source of the problem. Thoughts?

maybe they got 45nm rsx chip in em
sony dropped the ball big time they could of capitalized big time sales wise but if there still losing money on the old slim it would make sense not to sell loads of them if the new model is cheaper for them
its all about the money sony could of had supply easily but it would cost them

Play Me
We just don't know whats going on
But maybe it IS hard to make so many PS3's
remember when we were saying "How hard can it be to make wii's"
well apparently it wasn't all that easy.
But still SONY have had since the end of Jan to prepare form March 2010.
The only thing thing I can think of is new colors, which would help sales (I think).
If the new sku is gonna make them profitable with every single unit sold then they're right.
Otherwise, very bad time to hurt sales with sortages...

Sony knows what they are doing. Why are you so worried. Let's play our great games. We already have a PS3. Close topic. :D

Not worried, confused by their business tactics.
They can only ship as many as they produce, and I think the big successes over the winter months burned through the stock of slims they had produced. I don't think anyone, including sony, anticipated the demand for the 299 slim and now they're playing catch up.
Time for hype
Sony is looking into the quality of the PS3.
While they are making tons of the platform. They don't want them to just start breaking down. Like another console we know of so well.
