Well personally I doubt it has much to do with Reach or Netflix, and these shortages have been happening to some extent for the last while. Considering that the price has not changed between now and last year, and the same thing is not being seen in the rest of the world (where PS3 is not suffering the same issues), I do think it's the most likely explanation.

...and he's commenting on being proud of them topping said numbers.  Why is it unusual to be "proud" of something you're a fan of when it does well?  Just because he didn't invent the systems himself doesn't mean it's baffling that he would take satisfaction when his favorite systems sell well...

No we don't know the exact reason & we don't know why ninty couldn't just "make more & more"

We are seeing a similar issue with PS3 now, but on a smaller scale.

Poor old, Sony. Great GoW3 opening in US but a nasty dip in HW due (judging by ioi's post) to sporadic shortages. Not so smart. Still, given GoW3 is exclusive they should see the sales eventually, although they may lose some sales to 360 as a result as substitute purchase (although 360 is down a bit too so maybe not).

They sure have found a lot of ways to screw up this generation, haven't they?  I mean, since - what? -  E32005?, they've essentially been pimping FFXIII, GT5 and GOWIII.  And 2 of the three finally hit within a week of each other AFTER 5 YEARS!!!! and they have no consoles.  

That just seems like a huge waste.  Heads roll indeed.  

In addition, not having consoles on the market increases the likelihood of would-be week one software purchasers perhaps going used - especially in the case of the much shorter God of War.  (I'd imagine FFXIII will be a slower trek to the used shelves.)

Just fail.

Now I do think they will eventually make lots of those sales anyway, but it does have to be costing them SOME money.  Every week you have a system, you might download or buy SOMEthing.  

They had to know 6 months ago that they'd need units now.

At least we know there are a lot of people who are still planning on buying GOWIII because of the shortages. I don't think anyone buys a game before they even have the console. The numbers for the game are gonna be crazy.
