No, they don't. They have software which can be played by anyone, which is not the same as being "kiddy".

You wont see Warner Bros making Harry Potter 3D Movies 1 - 6 for the 3DS, and very few movies online will support it if ever.

On the PS3, and TV broadcasting, have a full new avenue of content with 3D. 3D Movies and games, meaning two revenue streams of content.

Can Everone just STFU so what if sony got the demographic age or something wrong who should care. NO ONE SHOULD CARE!Sony no going to change there mind just because people complain about it.You pepole are taking this to serious.

Uh...what?  The minute you introduce Pokemon, Mario or Zelda to '3D', not only will 'kids' be hooked with it, but all the same markets that the DS has been targeting this gen.  And soon all the other genres and companies will follow.  Soon you'll have '3D Tetris' to '3D Metal Slug' to '3D Dragon Quest' to '3D Final Fantasy Tactics'.

Seems like a pretty standard PR response of 'we got nothing to say and 'DS is for kids'.

Be a little fair, dude. He just said it'll be interesting to see how this'll translate to sales.

Just because something can appeal to kids, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I'll take "kiddy games" over a large percent of other games which try too hard to be mature.

The main demographic for any console is males between 5-17 years old.  The difference is, the DS also captures the most groups outside of that standard demographic, which is why its doing so amazingly well.  Especially women and 'older' gamers (gamers over the age of 25).  Two demographics that are very low or virtually non-existant on other systems (such as PS3/360/PSP).

The DS successor will hit that demographic just as well.  Especially with 3D.  Puzzle games, Strategy games and simulation games abound.

I understand that, and I fully agree (well other than the demographic part, from what I've read, PS3 owners are generally 18 and older).

 

I just think people are getting too offended over nothing here. It was an ignorant thing to ignore the older audience, no doubt, but like I said I do recall reading Nintendo aimed mainly for the younger audience with the DS when it launched. So, maybe he just assumed they're still following that strategy (which of course, is wrong). I don't think this was aggressive/arrogant like some other PR they've done before.

Do you really think the PSP2 won't be 3D now?

Nintendo has the best franchises for the handheld market (pokemon alone would be enough) and when they have the most powerful device as well Sony is in trouble. Sony needs to have a more powerful handheld to compete.

While yes your graph shows mass demographic no matter what age, you have to figure how long the DS has been out, people aging, and main focus of DS games.

Normal game products are either A. kids oriented or B. brain training which is popular with the older generations.

Ues there is still the middle ground with games like GTA Chinatown Wars and COD, but sill no one can ignore the majority of the content that exists.

There are many holes in the data presented here.
