Forums - Nintendo - 3DS Too advanced???

I also think that the intial price will be quite high (about 199), but the DSi is still going strong and thanks to titles like brain training will continue to go well while the new console will intially appeal mostly to hardcore gamers who spends more money on videogames.

Price does not Matter so much 'when' it has What people Actually Want.

But do people want 3d?

Completely different tech for one thing. 3D TVs will 'jump' out at you. This tech as far as I can tell is like a prism or window. You see 'in'. Pretty much _any_ current LCD tv with a tracking rig could do what the 3DS would do. The DSi _could_ probably do it, though not with as good fidelity, or with spare cycles to do much anything else.

It's not too soon, im actually wondering what took so long.

Nintendo is pretty good with pricing, and they always make sure that the sell for a profit on hardware from day one. I'm sure it will be reasonably priced (no more than 200 at launch and it will probably drop in price fairly quickly if it starts that high.)

Third Tier, for real.

if the supposed 3d is just a visual trick, like the DSI can do with the camera, I suppose it's cool but has limited applications, and really adds nothing.

I for one am not a proponent of 3D technology, I find it useless and would rather all the resources spent on improving the visual capabilities of the machine to have much cleaner and more detailed 3D graphics, something the DSi clearly lacks, the PSP is better but it also has allot more improvements that can be made on that front.

I guess we'll see what Nintendo really shows at E3, it'll either set the world on fire, or just be meh.

It's Nintendo, I wouldn't be worried. The price thing might bother some, but I'm sure Nintendo won't price the thing too high, I mean, just look at how this gen played out. I'm sure Nintendo have taken hints from the whole PS3 debacle. Besides, Nintendo aren't known for high-priced consoles and/or handhelds, I'm sure they'll make it work, at a pricepoint that's appealing to consumers, and profitable for them.

Well, I don't think it would cost much more than $50 to create a chip with the processing power of a gamecube x 2. The wii probably cost nintendo $100 to make and a further $20 to ship it around the world including controllers and wii sports.

The rumor that I am happy about is that SHARP is providing the LCD 3D screen, as it is a known fact that Sharp makes the best display technologies.

I see this new DS costing $220 - $250, having a full suite of downloadable apps on launch ( if it is compatible with DSi as seemingly indicated, then it must be compatible with DSi Ware). I also expect it to have a much larger onboard memory, somewhere in the region of 8GB (the absolute minimum for phones now. which costs roughly about $2 per 8GB at this moment).

This system is going to be beautiful. It will be the first nintendo Handheld I owned since the GBA.
