Completely different tech for one thing. 3D TVs will 'jump' out at you. This tech as far as I can tell is like a prism or window. You see 'in'. Pretty much _any_ current LCD tv with a tracking rig could do what the 3DS would do. The DSi _could_ probably do it, though not with as good fidelity, or with spare cycles to do much anything else.
It's not too soon, im actually wondering what took so long.
