Forums - General - Google is going uncensored in China

I think what may be an interesting outcome from this is that a small amount of information is enough for China's people to become aware. If people Google uncensored information on China's human rights past (Tienanmen square, etc), they may have their eyes opened. It could be a catalyst for revolution.

Regardless of if they censor Google Hong Kong now, the few hours it has been available for is probably all it needs.

...

Oh yeah, and the motives for Google wasn't to make a political statement, they were just looking out for #1.

Yay, some good news these days.

I have to give a big high-five to Google for this. And anyone else find China's threat kind of odd? I mean...what are they going to do? Murder someone?

High-five to Google?

They cooperated with the Chinese government in censoring Google for the Chinese market. Now that they got some problems of their own (getting hacked allegedly by Chinese hackers) they want to pull out. They're not doing it for the Chinese people.

I say fuck Google and fuck the Chinese government. They're both acting solely in their own interest here.

Well, obviously. Why would they fight a battle solely for the citizens of China? That's pointless. They are acting in their own interests, and their interests result in awesome-ness.

I didn't say they could do it solely for them. But if they actually followed their "do no evil" BS they wouldn't have helped censorship in the first place.

I wouldn't high-five them for now getting out for selfish reasons.

I don't blame them though. It's obvious by how much they're entrenched in the Chinese market that they make big money there. And if they pull out (lol, "pull out"), the Chinese people will be pissed. This is potentially a conflict between the Chinese people and the government. And if it starts, it will have been because of corporate selfishness. I love it.

Interesting Go Google plus 10. It may be for selfish reasons, but maybe it will benefit China's population. Another unexpected thing today.

Hehe. I like the idea of Google's capitalistic endeavours hurting the brutal Chinese regime.

Now we just have to figure out how to do the same in North Korea :-p

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Ban Google from China.

There are other search engines in China, so it won't really matter at all. I'm going to be so glad once the people's republic of China falls.

you do know that US and UE governement may fall BEFORE them because of the economic mess we created ?

of course, we may be saved by some nice countries buying our debt every years ... like china ?

You do know that I want the US government to fall, right?

Oh you guys know about China much more than Chinese ppl...so be careful of eliminating by the fucking government...

The US economy is still several times that of China's.  A massive global recession would hit the USA very hard, and a great many people would live a far lower quality of life.

That same recession in China would send tens (if not hundreds) of millions of people back below the poverty line, cause massive political strife and all sorts of other issues.

You realize as well that if the USA defaults on it's debts, whilst their would be MASSIVE reprocussions for the USA and it's people, that's around $2 TRILLION that instantaneously disappears from China's balance sheet.

Believe me when I tell you they wouldn't be happy.
