Forums - Nintendo - Anyone want to go on record that the Vitality sensor is just a gimmick?

Let's at least wait for something more tangible, shall we?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I say it IS a gimmick, but time will tell. I could be wrong and I hope I am.

I think the Vitality Sensor will be revolutionary. Developers like the creators of Shattered Memories are already praising a device like it.

Nintendo has a pretty long streak of successful peripherals so I don't see it ending soon.

How aobut based on your feelings or moods imagine characters in a Zelda game responding accordingly?

Or how about the difficulty of shooting a freethrow at the freethrow line depends on your calmness?

It takes a creative mind to think of the many innovative video game applications it can bring.

If (and I think it will) becomes a hit, expect Sony and Microsoft playing catch up again.

If Miyamoto backs it then it is likely to succeed.

I'm intrigued by it, but I'm not sure exactly how it will do. That said, we'll probably get one relatively early, if only for collector's sake.

best thing ever? seriously doubt it will be in the top 100 best things ever.

my problem is that it has to be attached to your finger with a cable that attaches to the wii mote presumably?

this limits its uses quite massively... how can you use this with a wiimote and a nunchuck?

You are assuming that the device will attach to your finger as the demonstration piece shown, however this could easily be done as a wrist strap. If this is put to use, it will most assuredly be one of those "greatest" devices added to gaming. The ideas for it's use are quite limitless.

You are assuming that the Vitality Sensor will be heartrate monitor that could work on your wrist. The information given about the device so far is that it is not a heart rate meter, but a device that meassures the amount of blood in your finger by shining a light through it. This is quite different. It will obviously be able to tell your heart rate, but also a lot more. For example, they have already said they are able to register the amount of oxygen in the blood. This is all from the last E3 if I remeber correctly. Who kows what else they have in store.

I am looking forward to it. I want to play first hand what they come up with day one.

i can't say until i see some games. Shigsy did hint on how it would work in Zelda if they would use it in the game. he said that the more stressed out you are the harder the enemies get. this will be huge if done right.

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

What's our metric for success here?

It's not going to beat WM+, because quite a few major titles are going to take advantage of a peripheral which is such an obvious extension of the Wii's core ideas. It's not going to beat Wii Fit, because it's just too damn huge to beat.

I think it should fall between 5-10 million, which is about how far I expect Move and Natal to go. Would that make it a gimmick?

it just depends on what it actually does besides pulse reading and what software it will have, if theres no software that doesnt interest me.. i would say fuck it lol... but there is rumours of a zelda support for it, if it does support it i will buy it for sure

I think it's going to be awesome. Can't wait for e3.
