Forums - Gaming - Oh, Gamestop! What are you up to, now?

So I bought my used copy of Assassins Creed 2 over a month ago and I have yet to play it.  It cost me $33.  Well, Gamestop is supposed to be having a HUGE sale that kicks off this week (according to Game Informer).  I went to Gamestop on Saturday to see what they had in stock and maybe impulse buy something.  I didn't find anything that needed to be bought at that moment (shocked the hell out of me, too!) but I did notice something:  Assassins Creed 2 was marked back up to $54.  As a matter of fact, a few games had gone up in price since my last visit.  I can only assume that it is so they can be "discounted" when this huge sale kicks off.  Pretty dirty, if you ask me (if my assumption is correct).

Any thoughts?

that is against the law but its gamestop and its probably a corporation and you live in corporate america so gamestop can fuck customers as much as they want cause customers keep coming back. Pure evil

Pretty dirty, but so is their usual policy of raping babies, etc. I am unsurprised!

I think that's pretty much how Gamestop rolls. Also, that's how jewelers roll. And me when I'm doing a hit for someone, 50% off this week!

HMV (uk) has lately had Uncharted 2 at £44.99 (unless this has changed last time I went in there) but a month or so ago it was £42.99, I think they launched it to be competative at £40... weird but it happens.

Hmm, pie.

Yeap i've witness that from my local EBgames as well. They seem to jack up the price before their sales.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Here's a little nice comparison of what's going on with AC2 pricing in Canada

Assassin's Creed II NEW Amazon.ca $50
Assassin's Creed II USED Gamestop.ca $65

Fuck GameStop. That's horrible.

Amazon has won me over as my favorite retailer for video games and accessories. Best Buy is good too. eBay is another favorite for me. GameStop isn't completely useless though. But I don't get why everyone shops there. GameStop is good if you want to get something day 1 with pre-order bonus DLC. They also have some good bargain bin titles and sometimes you'll find games at GameStop that Amazon, Best Buy and Wal-Mart don't carry. But for the most part, GameStop sucks.

The fact of the matter is that as long as people will be stupid enough to pay those prices, Gamestop will continue to do so.
